Reloading for 5.56

When reloading for 5.56 is it standard practice to use .223 dies and case gages? As well as .223 load data?

I'll probably go with a set of Lee .223 dies and I'm fond of the stainless case gages from Dillon.

I've been reloading for my M1A for quite a while, any tips for the AR?

You can use 223 dies. Read up on the difference between the chambers of 5.56 and .233 here. Lee dies are OK. They should do what you need them to do.

I have tryed putting 5.56 throu dillion 223 dies. I get acout 1/2" from base and it gets real tight. I had 1 get stuck and now chose not to reload 5.56 with out a 5.56 dies.

This may seem to be a dumb question.. but are you lubing the cases with something like the Dillon spray lube? One shot shouldn't be used for rifle.. I've found it doesn't do as good a job.

I just sized and trimmed 6000 pieces of 5.56 and 223 rem brass all through an RCBS Small based sizing die and using Dillon spray lube. I did this with my Dillon 650. I wish I had a 1050 but it's just a tad pricey these days.

The trick to using one shot on rifle cases is to make sure you lube the die occasionally too, make sure you thoroughly clean it of any other lube first.

+1 except, I used to use it for 50BMG too. Now, I use Imperial Wax for the bigger brass.
