Setting up my LNL AP......

and it has quite possibly the worst written instructions I have ever tried to follow.

I have given up on the written and am switching to the video. If that doesn't work, there will be calls to Hornaday in the morning.

I am pretty disapointed so far. Hope it is easier to use than to assemble.

There are a lot of experienced LNL users on this site. Your right, the written instructions are pretty poor. Video is much better. I am guessing this is your first AP press. There is a lot going on in a AP press. You have to remember that AP presses will require some tweaking to get them to run smoothly. AND IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO MADE THE PRESS, BLUE, RED AND GREEN. There is a very steep learning curve, call Hornady and ask for help. If you get stumped PM me I have had my LNL for several years and absoluety love my LNL.

While the written instructions are horrible, I found them good enough to set mine up without issues. The videos should definitely be easier though. Don't give up that easily, it's not rocket science.

The video instructions are much better, i pretty much just threw the written ones away. The set up is not very difficult because it comes mostly assembled. Just pay attention to the powder measure setup and cleaning, and how to switch out small and large primers

Protip: clean the living crap out of your powder measure, it will save you alot of hassle later on

One thing I found pretty helpful when I first started loading on a progressive (and still use when I have changed calibers, powders/weight, bullet profile/construction) is I run a single case all the way through, one at a time until I am sure everything is set right and flowing smoothly.

When you have one case to focus on, you can remove it and reset it multiple times for checking primer set, looking at the case belling, weighing the charge, checking OAL, checking crimp, etc.).

Stick with it, you will get it setup. As others have posted, there is plenty of experienced LnL AP hands on this site that have delt with every single problem a noob with this type of press might encounter (probably multiple times). So if you get stumped, just post what is going on and answers will come streaming back.

Yep yep, follow the videos! I didn't even take a look at the manuals.... If this is your first time loading the dies will take some work to dial in too (I thought this was the harder part).

I ran the videos on my iPad as I set up my LNL in the garage. It was an easy process and went by quickly.

+1 on the videos. I have a computer in the garage and played the vids while setting up my LnL AP and it went very smoothly.

Which part? The first, second or third? It all went pretty well other than Murphy's law. That being it broke on a friday, usually a holiday weekend then by the time I could contact them, get parts shipped and received it would be nearly 2 weeks.

I think everything is new on the press with the exception of the drive shaft which, oddly enough, seems to be the trouble most have with it.

Seems to all be good now though. Did great for 9mm and 40. I just got the shell plate for 357 mag so we will see how it does with roll crimping.

I used the DVD and got it set up and all the dies adjusted. The only problem is with the powder drop. I am trying to drop 4.3 of Titegroup and it actually drops between 3.9 and 4.7 grains. I cleaned the thing, and then took it back apart and cleaned it again. Not sure what is going on so I will call Hornaday in the morning.

Glad they sent the DVD. After watching it, the setup was easy. Trying to follow the step by step directions was driving me crazy.

1. Did you clean it with Hornady One-Shot or something similar?
2. Are you using the smaller powder drop and cylinder? The rifle (large) is installed out of the box and you have to switch to the pistol (smaller) one. The rifle will not drop small amounts like 4gr accurately.
3. Is the bushing and die locked down tight? The bushing on will sometimes move if you don't tighten it down.
