using 60gr. hornady v max bullets

just finished 90 rounds of 55 gr. fmj bt's by hornady. now trying 60 gr. v max's. i had to turn the bullet seating knob clockwise 1 full turn (not knowing this was needed) just to get it to 2.24". I could hear it crack some of my 25grains of hodgdon varget powder as the bullet was being seated.. but after the bullet was finally seated, i could shake the cartridge and hear the powder (meaning it was not fully compacted) question is, why did i need to resize the bullet seating die? it was already good at 2.23" for my 55gr bullets...

The die probably seats from the ogive (not the tip like pistol dies) which can be in different places at different weights.

NYY- Seating dies do not push the bullets from the tip. Most dies contact around the ogive area. 55 grain has a different profile from the 60 v-max so that's why you are not getting the same depth.

Please make sure you work up your load and not start at near max level. Start with 24.0 gr and work your way up. If you already have then disregard this.

yes i did. with my 55gr. bullets i used 25.5gr powder... with my 60gr bullet, i used 25 grain powder. just following Hodgdons reloading data chart as well as my reloading data booklet.
