    Picking up shotgun hulls

There are thousands of once shot factory plastic hulls that accumulate at a local shooting area, just wondering if people reload this stuff, and how much sorting it would require to sell it in bulk? (sort by gauge, high/low brass, ???)

Just thinking it might be able to help fund range cleanup days...

i would not say its worth it - most of what guys are shooting out there is cheap bulk stuff that few care to reload. I reload for 12ga and I personally would not buy old range pickups. They would be pretty dirty and one cannot so easily clean hulls as brass cases. Some have paper base wads in them that would be a big no-no to reload if they have gotten wet.

if your range is full of remington STS and win AA hulls then that is entirely a different story....

Not in to re-loading (maybe someday). But, we always carry out more than what we brought in. That being said... Most of the time, shotshells end up in the trashbags when we leave any way. Thanks for contributing to the cleanup.

I reload my 2 3/4 cheap stuff. Its still cheaper than buying new. And its fun to do. You can re use a hull 3-5 times as long as it stays in good condition.

I don't shoot or reload shot shells, but I usually pick up a trash bag or two full of them when I go shooting. They go straight into the garbage can when I get home.

People leaving them scattered around is one of my pet peeves and a good way to get the powers that be to close down shooting areas.

I went shooting a few weeks ago. I shot 100 rnds of 12ga and brought home about 200 or more. I reloaded all of them. Nice find and they were free.

Just pick up the Winchester AA and Remington STS.
There are a few other brands that people use, but you'll need to check a load manual for the names. Nobody will buy the other stuff for any price.

Remington gun clubs are constructed like the STS in the sense that there is no separate base-wad. They will be good for about 4 or 5 reloads in my experience (the STS and AAs giving about 10 or 11)

                Your biggest concerns should be:
                are they really ONCE FIRED?
Be prepared if you're picking up random hulls that you have an good selection of primers because Fiocchi and Kent/Gamebore use proprietary primers (Fiocchi and Cheddite). standard winchester 209s and STS 290s will not fit in the primer pocket.

Even the cheapo winchester super target white box and Universals (same hull) are almost as good as the gun clubs for at least two or three reloads.

                I don't even touch federal hulls...ugh can't stand 'em

                ...on that note:

                I'm only reloading .410 and 28 GA

Winchester Supertarget 12 & 20 GA, Remington Gun Club 12 & 20s are still so inexpensive that 12 and 20 simply aren't worth my time reloading. A case of 1oz supertarget (not universals) and wallyworld is still under $60 a flat which is extremely reasonable (used to be under $45 a flat not too long ago...but those are the breaks).

Good quality high brass hulls, I would.

The low brass target fodder is $22/100 for loaded ammo at Walmart. Some guys say you can't buy the shot for that. I'm going to guess those hulls are not the greatest quality going, either.

                    Thanks for the input guys!

I figured most of the stuff is walmart special target loads, but I'll have to take a look. Not a lot of options for ammo around here -- maybe people are shooting the good stuff!
