    Getting back to shotshell reloading

    after a 35 year break.
Mec 600 jr with original factory powder/shot bar.
As I recall, it loaded a satisfactory round for trap/skeet.
Any suggestions for powder? Hercules red dot used to
    be popular.
    Thanks for any info.

Promo is a bulk version of Red Dot that is sold only in 8 lb jugs. It is about $95.

I think you need to try Hodgdon Clays. Its all I use now for my Cowboy Action Shooting and trap loads. It burns so clean that you will barely find one flake of unburnt powder in your hulls or barrel! No exaggeration .....

With the price of lead shot these days; double check your component costs, it may not be economical to load 12ga target loads. For instance, if I buy lead shot by the single 25lb bag at the local sporting goods store, I can buy "Dove Loads" at WALMART cheaper than reloading. However, If I buy 500 to 1000 pounds of shot at at time, my reloads are cheaper. Lead shot seems to run about $40 here retail. It has been as high as $50.

          Just something to consider.

Ill agree with the promo powder instead of red dot...I use a lot of that stuff. Just be aware that grain for grain it is the same as red dot but its denisty is not consistent from lot to lot. So with the same bushing you may have a difference in charge when you get into a new jug. Since its only sold in 8ln jugs, that recalibration wont happen too often though

I have dropped down to using 1oz or 7/8oz shot with promo powder and a downrange XL-1 wad in remington hull. Works very well for me.

Another vote for RedDot, very consistent & reliable.
