    Brass Preference for .223

I have collected 223 PMC and LC brass from the mid 80's to now and finally got started to reloading within the last 2 years. I have a bunch PMC brass from 86 on and most of the LC is from 00 to 09. I was planning on working up some 77gr SMK with Varget and was wondering if there was a preference for brass choice. I trimmed about 2000 cases to 1.750" plus/minus .002.

What is your opinion on the cases? Is there one that is better suited for the 77gr SMK or it doesn't make a difference as long as they are prepped properly?

    Thanks.

Lake City all the way. The PMC has good brass quality, my only complaint is that often their flash holes are off center.

Both work fine. PMC and LC are both pretty close in weight as well so if you develop a varget load in one odds are it'll be very close in the other.

edit: LC is my current favorite because of price and availability

LC and PMC brass are my staples.

I save and sort my LC brass for match grade loading. Everything else gets used for plinking rounds.

I have tons of everything. But for the match loads I use LC sorted by year.

Keep both, they are good, PMC is fine, LC is great. Sort into LC and PMC lots and use LC for precision loading.

Note: Always re-size before you trim or the the trim job is wasted and will have to be done again, soon.

Yes, resized, trimmed and then case prepped.

Have some Winchester, Federal and R-P (Remington) as well as mix of others that I will use 55/62gr for plinking.

                Thanks for the replies.

Brass is brass and it all depends on what you are doing with it. I find Remington, Winchester, Federal, & Lake City to be very consistent, others not so much. The biggest is off center flash-holes.

I like RP with LC close second.

What ever was a free pickup at the range. My two bolt action .223's are tack drivers regardless of what brass I use so I stopped trying to sort it and just go with what ever is clean and ready to be primed when I load for them.
