    Bird Shot

Looking for a small quantity of bird shot (12) for reloading some 357 mag capsules. Anyone know if that possible w/o having to buy 5lbs bag?

You could open up some shotgun loads.

You're not going to be able to find shotgun shells that are loaded with #12's.

You can find some with #9's.

I have seen smaller shotgun shells loaded with 12 shot, like .410. But its true that you may have a difficult time finding that kind of thing. 9 shot is a skeet load so should not have any trouble finding those.

but if you have to buy some specialty 12 shot .410s to get the shot, you may as well just buy those CCI 38/357 shotshells and call it a day if you arent looking to load in quantity.

Seems to me that Speer recommends loading with something heavier than 12s. 6s, 7 1/2s or 9s are what they suggest in the loading manuals, I believe.

#9 shot works well in .357 and .44 mag Speer shot capsules. Has dense enough pattern for a good snake load out to 6 feet or so. Patterns tend to open up about 1 inch per foot so a 8 foot target would have about an 8 " pattern. You can break open some #9 target loads for loading your capsules and I think you'd be satisfied with the results.

Rio made 12 gauge and 410 shell loaded with #12 shot. I just found some of the 2.5" 410's by Google searching.

I use #8 & #9 shot in both 357 and 45LC shot shells. Took out a 42" Rattle Snake in my daughters garage last year.

Moy on the flipside, you can put 3 #1 buckshots in the capsule and you'll have tripple buck load. Weigh capsule with the bucks inside. Reference your loading manual for the closest total weight and use the min. powder charge. With my revolver the bucks does not spread much at 15 yards but at 25 yards roughly 3" pattern. Yours may be different. Try it you may like it better than birdshot. I use W231 powder. #6, 7, 8, & 9 birdshot makes decent pattern.
