    Reload 7.62x39?

    Hi All,

I was looking into building an AK clone and I was researching reloading for it. So far I haven't found much info on reloading for the 7.62x39 round. Does anyone out there reload for their AK's and SKS's? The ammo I'm seeing for sale is mostly Berdan primered steel and seldomly brass cases. Is imported mil surplus so cheap nobody bothers to reload it?

Not many people reload 762x39, so cheap to buy, and some decent hunting ammo available now also. I know a few people load for it, I think Richard E does.

I've done some loading for the x39. Mostly just for kicks. It's hard to beat the price of surplus ammo.

I reload 7.62x39mm but not for savings since components, especially brass has gone up in price. I've loaded both hunting and plinking rounds.

You are correct that surplus and newly manufacture like Wolf are cheap in price. There are steel casings that are boxer primed and can be reloaded one more time before tossing. With regards to steel berdan case, that can also be reloaded provided that you purchase berdan primers (i believe Grafs and Son has them), and a special decapper tool that RCBS sells. But the price you pay for the tool and primer is better spent on new manufactured ammo.

I load hunting ammo in 7.62x39, when ammo prices were insane a few years ago I loaded for it more. Winchester brass is reloadable so if you come across some it is well worth it, and you can really tweak out some accurate loads

I load for it, cast my own bullets for it as well, so I can get it cheaper than the surplus/wolf stuff.
