    Question - Bought damaged ammo?

Hey guys last weekend I bought a box of Winchester .44 Rem Mag 240 Gr. Jacketed Soft Points from Wal-Mart. I just opened it today and the first thing I noticed was a round missing... 29.98 for a box of 50 and one is missing pissed me off a bit then I noticed something else the ammo is dirty. The some of the brass markings are a little light others are dark and they are all tarnished. The sides of the brass on a few rounds have dents others have dark tarnished sides. Some of the primers are bright brass colored others are more orange, I have seen differen't colors on the WW primers before so that doesn't bother me too much. My concern is the ammo was bought, shot, and then reloaded, but maybe I'm just being paranoid and it just sat on the shelf for a long time and some kid pocketed the one round while stocking the shelf? If i don't want the ammo what do I do with it? Wasting $30 sucks, but I think Wal-mart has a no return policy on ammo. I'm trying to get some pictures but they don't come out at all, I'll try something different after dinner.

    Thoughts?

Walmart will under no circumstances allow you to return or exchange your ammo (I used to work there. It's a liability thing). Your best bet would be to either call the Walmart customer service line to see if the corporate office can do anything for you, or call Winchester.

FYI, when I used to work at Wally World, I used to open the boxes of ammo and have the customer inspect the ammo before purchasing it. It's a good idea to open any boxes you buy there. When I moved to night receiving, I can tell you many a box was damaged in shipment.

That's good advice. I opened a box of the WWB 9mm (value pack) and found about 1/3 of the ammo missing.

The clerk looked at it and just handed me another one.

In the future I will be opening the box before I buy. I have tried to get a few good pictures but my camera hates taking pictures of shiny items. I sent off a letter to Winchester explaining the problem and asking what they can do. I'll update this again if I can get a good picture or I get a response from Win.

My first reaction was to try to take it back but a few things stopped me. First I have been the guy that yelled for a manager, but I don't like to go there. Second Wal-mart likes to put stuff that's returned back on the shelf, I don't want this ammo to end up in some other unlucky shooters hands. I'll go and yell if I have to but I'd prefer to talk with Winchester first and see what they can do for me.

I've returned ammo to Walmart before. My dad bought my some .223 WSSM ammo instead of just straight 223 ammo for my birthday. They didn't hassle me about it too much once they found out I wanted to just straight trade for other ammo. I'd also check and make sure that all of the headstamps match.
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.
