    School me on A MAX 75 .224

    I have a BVSS 12 .223 1/9 26" bull barrel

I am looking to start shooting this bullet but had some questions.
I was told it will stabilize it from Hornady but will it?
Will it's COL fit my guns mag?
What groups should I expect say at 600 yards?

    thanks guys

Most of what I've seen is that some 1:9" twist barrels will stabilize the 75 grain AMax but most won't. You are going to probably have to push them to the highest velocity to do so. I've loaded them hot in a 1:10" twist 22.250 and they didn't work at all.

Here's my target at 100 yards.

yeah that's what I am worried about. I have some 75gr JHP Hornady and my father in Law got some Amax to find out that it does not fit his AR, not sure why I told him a million times that it will not fit but I think he is getting too old. So now I was thinking about trading him for his A max

I was shooting 75Gr A-Max today single shot out of my AR at 500 meters it won't knock over the rams, but it's fun (I have a 1-7 20")

I am hopping that the 26" barrel and some powder will get it going. I am just worried about it not fitting into my rifles mag

Have you measured OAL for your chamber with those bullets? That would really be the only way to know if they would fit in your mag.
Will trade liquor/wine/beer for parts and accesories and ammo! PM me. Dont drink n shoot. Offer void where prohibited. Must be 21 or older, etc. etc.

I single load just because the A-Max is the only .224 pill that stays Super-sonic at 1k (that I have found)

                  A-Max

The OAL of the Hornady 75gr Amax is 2.390. This will not fit in the AR mag. If your going to shoot 75 Hornady it must be the HPBT Match at 2.255. All the Amax rounds are single load. Do not try to force this your just being hard headed.

Also try 80gr anything other than Amax at 2.435 OAL use 24.5gr of BLC-2

This is the correct answer ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^. For AR mag length rounds, I use the Hornady 75 gr. BTHP. The 75 gr. AMAX will not fit at magazine length for an AR, no matter how much you want it to.

It might stabilize, it might not. It's all about RPM.

You can make it any COAL you want. We have shot 82's and 80 VLD's at mag length. With a .200" bullet jump, it actually takes more powder than a .020" bullet jump to get similar velocities.

Group size will depend upon your rifle and loading technique. Oh, and the WIND!!

Ok loaded some at 2.390 and it fit! I can't wait to shoot them. Now I have loaded at increments of .3 meaning 25.3 25.6 and so on. Do I test my loads at 100? Or say 400?

Since it's your first time with that bullet, you will have no idea where the point of impact or what the grouping is like, shoot it at 100 yards.

Yeah I was thinking the same I ll do 10 of each test at 100 correcting 0 between groups and then run data after chrono and get clicks for 400
