Ok folks - I predict this one will get a lot of talk. Of the many variables involved in developing an accurate round, what sequence of steps do you take. For example, I would first pull up a load based on what I have handy on hand. Then I would adjust and shoot various powder charges until I find a good one in the correct pressure (velocity) range for that bullet. But then what? Play with different primers? The various powders? Or maybe diddle with the overall length. Or just leave it alone, figuring this is only a hunting round, so who needs that last 1/10 or 2/10", or even half an inch? Now, I will admit to being lazy enough that I might just take that last approach! But the rest of you are possibly not THAT laid back. What do you do and in what order?

Questions like this are better for snipershide. Those guys dig into the minutiae.
For me, 1moa is plenty fine for .223 and I get that with range pick up brass, wolf small mag primers, bulk hornady bullets, and a close enough powder drop. Granted I am shooting a full JP gun but I have even made LD hits with milsurp powder and a bone stock savage.
Long story short just loading a given receipe is fine for me. Save the meplat trimming, case neck turning, and bullet jacket thickness measuring to the bench shooters. -
you pretty much have it. build a few rounds using the same primers and powders in say half grain increments, find out which two shoot the best of the bunch then maybe use .2gr increments covering just above and just below and inbetween, then you can get very anal and use .1 increments from those best few there.
if you want to try another primer or powder you almost have to start all over and do it all again.
it about how much that last .1moa is worth to you and how much time, effort and materials you can afford to spend on finding the last gnats ***** of accuracy. Some people talk about it and some people do it.Comment
