Help Please ?Recipe for 40S&W using Clays?

Floor swept brass,165 grain delta precision bullet, with 3.5 grain clays powder (I have a ton of this powder looking to stay with it), having failure to feeds. This is being shoot out of a Glock 22 Gen 4. I would like to find a load data I can use in IDPA. I understand that I should just up the load alittle at a time but does anyone have recipes using the above bullets and powder. Thanks in advance.

      Directly from Hodgdon's website:

      165gr Sierra JHP @ 1.125 OAL
      3.5gr - 851fps - 29,900psi (140PF)
      3.9gr - 897fps - 33,300psi (148PF)

Your 3.5gr load should easily meet IDPA Minor PF. If you need to burn the rest of your stash of clays, my suggestion would be to get a Jager Polymer GEN 4 guiderod (SSP legal) & a 15# ISMI spring. That combo should shoot REALLY soft for you.

I don't understand why that load won't function with your stock RSA. I have shot a few hundred rounds of my previous 9mm Minor load (147gr Berry's/3.5gr TG) with the factory GEN 4 G17 RSA with no problems. I am running a Jager Polymer Guiderod w/13# ISMI spring now though.

Hey, make sure you only load minor loads with clays. It has a history of spikes with major loads. The Enos site always suggests no clays for 40sw major. I don't use clays but you might want to look into that. I am speaking about regular clays...not universal or international.

Your load may not quite be hot enough for the Gen 4. Do you have the original recoil spring, or the upgrade? You can also get the LoneWolf adapter ring and run a Gen 3 spring. You don't need to in IDPA, but I would not try to make major with Clays. It's a high density fast burning powder, better off to go with HS-6 or LongShot. Most guys in USPSA run Vihtavuori N340 for major.

You have to change the spring I use a 13 on my g35 and a 15 on the g22. With 180grain we have two loads that work well 2.8 of clays and 3.2. We had to bump it up to 3.2 because we shoot glock and 1911 .40 cal, the 2.8 was giving us stove pipes every 3rd too 5th round inthe 1911 but worked great in the glock. Hope this helps
