    Should I shoot this ammo?

I have a 280 round ammo carrier of original 1969 Lake City 30-06 ammo in en-bloc clips and cardboard sleeves. Everything is original and untouched from when it was packed at the factory. It looks like it was packed and shelved yesterday, my Dad had it squirreled away for 35 years or so.

I just was going to shoot up this ammo, but at an older friends suggestion wanted to get an opinion about saving or selling the carrier and ammo rather than just using it.

So is there any collector or historical value, or should I just enjoy it at the range?

    Thanks, john

Use it. And while you use it think fondly of your father.

If your dad wanted it converted to cash he would have sold it. Instead he saved it for you.

Perhaps save 1/2 to pass to his grandchildren.

      john,

I don't believe ther's any particular value in it other than just shooting it. It's good ammo cuz for sure the date indicates it's non-corrosive.

I'd say shoot some and save some or just shoot it all. Unless you want to keep it for sentimental reasons.

I saw some for sale on another site for about $0.75 each.
I would shoot it all except for a couple en-blocs.

No sense in selling it. Ya got kids/grandkids? Has your Dad passed? Sorry, if he has.

I'm a little quirky, but here is what I would do. Save one en-bloc for keepsake, to pass down.

On a special date each year, I would take one or two enblocs out w/ somebody special like kids/grandkids/other Family Member & shoot some in honor of your Dad.

Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

Thanks for the answers, and kind words. Yes I did lose my Dad, but it was 10 years ago, on 12-23-2001. He had lots and lots of stuff, most of which I still haven't done anything with.

As I posted above, I didn't think the ammo was anything special, as I have shot thousands of surplus rounds since I was a kid. But I found a website selling similar untouched ammo cans with virgin matched en-bloc ammo in the original cardbord sleeves for $900, and thought I would ask here about the collector value.

I would hate to ruin something very collectable and valuable, even if it would be really fun to shoot 'em up!
