Wanting to Start Reloading

So I'm thinking about entering the hobby of reloading. Mostly because it should drop the cost of action shooting (ammo's more than the entry fee), and I would be able to make some reduced load rounds for action shooting. I'm looking at getting a single stage press, but before you shout at me to get a progressive, let me explain why I think I need to get a single.

I live in a housing complex without a garage and I can't reload indoors (roomies). I have a small place outdoors where I can be secluded and reload but I really don't want to leave it outdoors. This means that I'll be bringing it inside for storage and then outside when I want to use it. This size / portability issue is the main reason I can think of to get a single stage. Heck, as it is I'm trying to think of how the logistics would work for the single stage. Me bring it in, but leave the table outside, or whatever.

Other than ideas on how to do this, how many round per hour can I expect from a single stage?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. If it matters, I'll only be reloading for a 9mm and a 45acp for maybe 200 - 400 rounds per month.

For that amount a Sigle stage will work fine.
Once setup you can pump out those 400 rds in under 2 hours.
However moving everything in and out will be a pain in the Butt.
No to mention any slight breeze will play havoc on the Powder scale.
I would say find a corner in your room to setup the press and the other stuff can go in the closet till your ready to load.
I go into peoples apartmants all the time" Part of my Job" and I see complete reloading setups in the closet.
Get atleast an RCBS Press. Turret Press may even be better for your application.

Unfortunately, when I say "roomie" I do mean roomie. If I wasn't sharing a room, I would just put a setup in my room and not worry.

Thx for the input.

When I had roomies and was first starting reloading, I had a Rock Chucker and my brother and I built a little table about 18 inches deep and 2 feet wide and 1 ft high (more or less). The table top was cut in on one side so that when mounted, the press was more or less in the center of the table

-------
/-\
-/ \--

More or less (I hope that turns out ;-)

This little table was portable and could be placed on a table (kitchen table, picnic table, etc) to be used and otherwise could be placed in a closet.

I have customers who have done something similar to the following: They use an RL 550B press and mount it on the Dillon Strong Mount mounting legs/plates. However, the strong mount plates are not bolted to any bench. Rather, they set the press/strong mount combo on the table and use big C-Clamps on the strong mount to hold it to the table. When done, they just unclamp it and move the whole thing to a closet. I have not done this but have heard variations on this theme several times.

I've got a Dillon 550 mounted to a piece of wood that I C-clamp to the dinner table It's got the powder measure and all that great stuff already hooked on, so there's really no setup or weirdness aside from clamping it to the table. When I'm done, I just stuff it back in the closet.
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

Had mine clamped to the Computer table before.
Actually I usually do my Powder Chages at the Dinner table then walk them to the garage to seat the bullets.

my single stage is clamped to my desk (very sturdy). i usually take it all apart and put it in my workbench/box so it saves space.

Turret press.
Mount it on a board.
Clamp the board to a table when necessary.

Don't think I want to use a hand press. Tho' I do imagine I wouldn't need to work out after a reloading session.

WJH,

You might want to take a look at this.

"Did I say "republic?" By God, yes, I said "republic!" Long live the glorious republic of the United States of America. Damn democracy. It is a fraudulent term used, often by ignorant persons but no less often by intellectual fakers, to describe an infamous mixture of socialism, miscegenation, graft, confiscation of property and denial of personal rights to individuals whose virtuous principles make them offensive." - Westbrook Pegler

I can vouch for that, from what a recall, there's a tumbler on kitchen table
and reloading parts shoved in the corner..LOL

Karl, I'm also thinking about reloading, which means I'm gonna be buggin you here shortly
