Regarding the wolf, it is steel case and for corrosion resistance since steel easily rusts, and does not hold up well like brass, they applied a thick layer of lacquer.
The same thing they do to the 7.62 AK. I have read several stories and learned first hand that this budget ammo gums up the chamber. What is exactly does (like stickiness, or tightness thus greater friction when retracting, or gumming up the gas system, etc) is debatable. What is not is that most people shooting this stuff in their AR will eventually after not to long have mostly extraction problems but also a fair number of full chambering into battery poblems.
I shot like 5000 rounds of this stuff through my old PWA with the CAR/XM-177 upper and it would always eventually start to have problems and need a good cleaning before cooperating again. Each time I took it out again it took fewer rounds before I started getting problems again. Eventually I developed a permanent extraction problem that was impossible to diagnose (checked gas hole, changed gas tube, changed gas rings, changed key, changed bolt, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc,) and I gave up since it was a good excuse to get on the M4ergy band wagon upgrade.
Allegedly, I only know this by reading and word of mouth, Wolf has redesigned their corrosion protection coating by using a thin layer polymer instead of the before mentioned lacquer. It is designed for a much higher temperature. There also seems to be some confusion as to whether they use this just over the rear/primer area (as it says on their US website-or at least two of their possibly numerous US websites) or if it coats the entire round as many say it does and as it appears to my eye to do.
One way to think about it is the cost savings of 5000 rounds of wolf paid from my M4ergy upper replacement and then some thus makes financial sense. On the other side, if it is for anything like for work or for protection then don't even mess with the stuff in an AR.
Now most likely due to the looser tolerances in an AK, this lacquer coated round presents no problems for an AK type as all those using that round followed the lacquer coated steel philosophy.
As to miwall, well I had to go into work yesterday with mandatory overtime so missed the mad Costco like rush with hand dollies, carts, forklifts, and cranes.
Today I made it in at noon and I saw they had merchandise on only 6 of the 14 tables they rented for the show, and to boot those 6 tables were sparsely populated. There were lots of empty wood pallets lying about though. This was a great sign that they had really good prices and made lots of money. The bad news is that since they sold out before the first day was over that they missed the opportunity to make gobs more money. To flip that around again, at least they allowed other ammo sellers to make some money after they sold out.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Wolf stopped using lacquer several years ago.Regarding the wolf, it is steel case and for corrosion resistance since steel easily rusts, and does not hold up well like brass, they applied a thick layer of lacquer.

The lacqured cases were dark green and looked almost camoflaged.
They replaced the lacquer with the current light gray polymer coating.
The lacquer was not actually the problem though.
The problem with the old ammo was the type of primer sealant they used.
When the gun got warm, that primer sealant oozed out and gummed up the chamber.
The polymer coated wolf ammo all comes with the new style of primer sealant that should not gum up a rifle like the old stuff did.
The main issue is that the powder is still dirty and smelly.Randall Rausch

I know peeps hate it; but I can tell ya' I've not really had ANy significant problems with it...it goes bang more often than not; And truth be told-- I've had more Rem and IMI (.223) NOT go bang. Its better than the Romanian crudd (x39)that was sold a while back ((That REALLY smelled)) and looked like the SP ammo was assembled by drunken monkeys with a lead dipper.....
It ((USed to be
)) be half the cost of *good* ammo and made for hours of fun at the range with *ok* accuracy. NEVER had a gun that refused to accept it, few/couple FT-Feed...that arguably could have been mag related and not ammo related.
So again...I know not everyone likes it....but that just means MORE-4-ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You just keep right on bein' a Wolf-Hater

Ok, let's try this another way.
WITHOUT comparing it to other brands of ammo or mentioning the low price, what are some OTHER good things about wolf ammo?Last edited by ar15barrels; 11-18-2007, 7:19 PM.Randall Rausch

Some AR barrells are finiky. It works in 3 of four fine. I do have a DPMS barrell that wont take any steel cased ammo. Only brass. The steel case ammo expands once shot. Simply put if it is tight in there it wont come out. Please spay or neuter your liberals.Comment

Miwalls was a mixed bag: they had good* .40 S&W and 30-30 prices but the 308 was expensive. Their online distributor OMC had the same** 308 (both the new manufac and the reloaded) for about $20 less per 200 round box.
*= relative to other sources I have have seen in Nov 2007, not the $0.000001/rnd you paid in 1938.
**= Miwalls claimed that the OMC 308 was not theirs but it the same mixture of brassWestcoastrComment
