    7.62 x 40 rounds

Has anybody else heard of the Wilson Combat 7.62x40 rounds. Looks like you would use a .223 case, cut down, and a .308 bullet after resizing the neck.

    Specs

    Caliber 7.62x40 WT
    Bullet 125 gr. Speer TNT
    Velocity 2400 FPS
    Muzzle Energy 1,598 ft-lbs.
    Test Barrel Length 16"

Wilson says all you need for the conversion is the barrel. They sell brass, dies, or loaded ammo.

    What are your thoughts??

    Interesting.
Should compare specs with .300 Blackout.

why not just up it to a 308 Ar....i was looking into getting one of these wildcat rounds...but with all the work just to get subsonic performance/ ar15 platform...didnt make sense to me....i make 300 AAC for resale...but thats different....

its a good cartridge, but its basically an AK round (7.62x39)... if you want 7.62 knock down power go 308. ammo is more available, mags are available and you dont have to spend a fortune to start loding for it....

        RRR,

I am looking for a round that hits harder than a .223, that is easy and cheap to switch over to. A .308 is not an easy or cheap conversion, it requires all new stuff, plus I already have a M1A. I like the fact that everything is the same with the 7.62x40, same upper, same bolt/carrier, same mags, all it requires is a barrel change. I also have plenty of .308 bullets on hand. It all just seams too easy to do for me anyway. Costs, barrel $250.00, dies $70.00, and some time.

I am looking for input on this conversion before I spend the money on it. The only reviews I have seen are from Wilson, and they just might be a little biased.
