I bought myself for Christmas the RCBS Supreme Master Reloading kit!

I plan on using it for Hunting/rifle loads. Other than the dies and misc. equipment will this get me by for what i need?

I also plan on using my Ohaus pharmacy grade scale that i used to tint plasters.

Any advice is appreciated. Dang i sound like a real newb!!

Excellent kit. The stuff in that kit will last a lifetime.

You will need to get the dies for the calibers you shoot. I would also recommend a Hornaday bullet comparator and a caliper so you can measure the finished OAL and maybe a powder trickler (I like the Redding unit). Components of course.

Otherwise you should be good to go.

I started with basically the same gear and later added the RCBS Chargemaster and Trim Mate/Prep Center, which dramatically sped up production. The Chargemaster has been very accurate with all powders and is like having a assistant right there at the bench.

That's the kit I started on, and I still use almost everything in that kit to this day. Great kit. Just add a good set of calipers and you have everything you NEED to build outstanding ammo. For all other equipment, you'll slowly come to realize what other equipment you may need/want. No need to rush it or feel anxious about other equipment.

I second the calipers and the bullet puller, the other thing while not entirely necessary is a tumbler. Good for cleaning brass, and for putting the shine on loaded ammo

I'd prioritize calipers (harbor freight) first, tumbler/seperator next, and bullet puller last. Don't lose sleep over the puller.....get one eventually tho.

If you're loading hunting rifle ammo a pair of vise grips works....but you do mangle the bullet. However you saved the case and powder etc. If you plan on pulling an entire run, yeah a bullet puller is handy.

You can start with one powder for the 308, 243, 270 & 30.06. IMR 4064 performs well in all of those. It's a bit finicky in the RCBS Uniflow so I weigh every charge. I use 4064, WLR primers for 243, 6mm Rem., 308, 30.06 & 8mm Mauser.

Here are 3 of my favorite hunting loads (remember work up to these as all rifles are different and so are production lots of components):

.308: Nosler 165 gr. Partition, 44 gr. Varget, WLR primer COAL 2.810"

.243 (Specific load for my rifle, Sako 75 iii, 1:10 twist) Berger 87 gr. VLD, 35.6 gr. IMR 4064, WLR primer, COAL 2.810" (this COAL is individual rifle specific....see Berger tech support) Chrono's in my gun at over 2900 fps.

30.06 (Remington 700 ADL) Barnes 168 gr. TTSX, 49.8 gr. IMR 4064, WLR primer, COAL 3.240". Just started loading these as I hear they want to expand the Condor zone. It performs well on paper with sub 1" groups at 100 yds. in a 40 year old rifle. 30.06's also seem to love 165 -168 gr. pills. Bigger bullets 175 gr. plus might want to try IMR 4350.

Now for 44 mag. YOU wanna hunt so I'm guessing you want full power loads (be carefull with this recipe = some pressure signs). I use Dirty Harry's gun with the 8 3/8" barrel. Hornady 265 gr. FP, 23 gr. W 296, WLP primer, COAL 1.610". > 1400 fps in my gun. This is my Alaska fishing ammo since I don't have a hand held bazooka for bears. Works dandy on large feral pigs though.

.357 Mag. Colt Python 6", 158 gr. JHP / JSP, 15.5 gr. W 296, Federal Small Pistol Magnum Match primer, COAL 1.590". I don't hunt with this gun, but it likes this load & it's definitely a magnum load.

For the handgun calibers I bought carbide dies and Starline nickel plated brass for 50 to 100 round load runs. I use other mixed brass too for shorter runs.

ust remeasured the 30.06 Barnes 168 TTSX.....COAL 3.240" I was going off memory and parsed it with another bullet. I corrected the error and colored it in my earlier post
