My reload setup and first 38 spl. run!!

First of all, I will be working with Bruceflinch on my first run. We will be meeting up tomorrow for some instruction.

    But I can't wait!!!!!

First of all, a picture of my wonderful setup. Woohoo!!!!

Not pictured is the RCBS Uniflow.

Today I am going to inspect all my 38 spl cartridges. Look for a chamfer on the case opening to see if that step has been done.

Then I will be decapping and sizing. I looked through the Lymens book and believe that I can do this step with minimal instruction. I will keep all my cartridges in groups and will begin a log book.

After I finish this step, I'm going to call my reloading tutor.

To the person that shall not be named......... this is already fun.

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

I don't see a thing wrong with that handle. Maybe throw a layer of grip tape (It's used on tennis raquets) for padding but other than that I don't see a problem. It certainly seems robust enough!

Now, what ya do, ya takes that bullet puller/hammer thing and whack the package of primers real good, just to level them off....Oh wait, you said you're new. Never mind! Just kidding, of course. Nice setup. It's curious how so many people put down the .38 special as inadequate, yet start reloading with it. It's what I started with 34 years, a different waistline and a different hairline ago. And I still like the round today. Good luck to you (only with a good instructor, luck shouldn't enter into it).

Nice setup! your gonna have a great time! The second part of the fun comes when you test the different loads for acuracy, youll be able to make some real quality ammo for much less than factory rounds

                good luck!

After the fact, I had the idea of just cutting an X in a tennis ball & sticking it on the "knob"

And Yes, you did Call! Glad you're doing your Homework.

I have a job for the "old" handle.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I've experimented with different powder brands for my .38 spcl. My current recipe of choice is Unique. Good choice.

Hhahahah, the only reason I picked Unique is because I saw the name in the book.

I have both a scale and calipers.

I will finally have a place for a reloading bench, and I will start the buildup process, getting ready to load 38.
