    Any Loading Obi Wan Kenobi's?

I want to learn to load for a few calibers. 9mm, .223, and soon .45. Anybody willing to actually spend some time and teach in the San Jose- Milpitas area?
I really want to learn so PM me please. I'd like to do this soon.

    Thanks,

I can help, my first advice would be to scatch the reloading for 9mm idea, there is a Walmart in Milpitas that should have some bulk packs for a decent price, so much so that reloading for it may not save any money. Unless you just want to load 9mm for the enjoyment of it. I live in Mountain View and wouldn't mind dropping by to help you get set up once you have every thing you need.

I load 9mm for just over $5 per 50 rounds. Jacketed. I can load 500 rounds in the time it would take me to drive to Walmart, deal with idiots, and drive home.

I never understood the argument that 9mm is not worth while to reload

About not loading 9mm is nonsense (no offense) You will not save money but you will be able to shot more with a lot better ammo than that Win White Box crap. But Bravo to helping him out, every reloader should help, because most got help.

$10 per 100 rounds? I would love to find out where you get your components from.

I don't think I have seen jacket bullets for less than $10 per 100 in at least 5 years, throw in powder and primers and you are back to square one, its cheaper at Walmart or Miwall

Here is a link to 1k jacketed bullets for $76 shipped.
The go-to choice for shooters, Precision Delta is a leading manufacturer of ammunition and reloading components. All of our products are proudly manufactured in Mississippi

Anyone that has really reloaded in real life (not just on the internet) knows of Precision Delta.

I'll assume high prices for everything else I'm about to list. For example I never really pay $20 for 1lb of powder. If you want links to other components I can supply those as well.

              1lb of powder = $20
              1k of primers = $20
              1k of bullets = $76

That comes out to $5.37 per 50 rounds or $10.74 for 100 rounds.

How much is a box of WWB at walmart? $20, $25, ... I really don't know but I'll bet it's more than $10.74.

Either you are mathematically challenged or just repeating internet FUD.

9mm is very profitable to reload assuming you have a progressive press and are a smart shopper for components.

I don't mean to be rude, but I hear people say 9mm isn't worth reloading all the time on these forums and it just isn't true.

I shot a magazine of factory ammo from the bench and the grouping was everywhere. Shot a magazine of my reloads and they were within a couple inches. That makes it worth it to me. What's the use of shooting if you don't hit what your aiming at. Just my 2 cents.

Im on the other side of the fence on this one, you can buy 1k of 9mm loaded for $165

Ill agree that if you have a progressive press it makes sense, but if your on a single stage the labor makes it really difficult. Especially for a new loader who cant afford to buy in bulk, hes realistically looking more at $30 for primers and $25 per lb, plus he may not even have any brass.

If you factor in brass to this equation it becomes even more untenable. your looking at $130+ for a new loader just in components, plus a weekends worth of loading for a good $35 savings.

You can make much better quality ammo, but add a few more hours and some added cost onto that and it starts to suck.

I have never loaded 9mm, but now that i have a progressive i intend to start. I can easily afford 2k projectiles from precision delta, i got a bunch of primers for $17 per 1k and can afford to buy 8lb jugs from powder valley. It now makes sense for me to load them.

Back when i was on a single stage buying 1k primers and 1 lb powder jugs at a time it just wasnt worth it.

The savings with .45 are much better, instead of saving 20% you get closer to 50%

I am near Concord if you want to come by I will give you a lesson. I have 2 550's and a 650 to learn on.

Oh, I reload 9mm it makes perfect sense.

The whole not Loading 9mm is FUD. There is no way you can call your self a reloader and say its not feasible to load 9mm. Any ammo that you are getting is still about $4 over reloads, not to mention its crap or surplus. Plus you can buy powder and primers all day for $20 lb/brick.

I still ask myself everyday while I am still on this forum with all the FUD that goes on here...??????

I am a reloader (since 1992) and I no longer reload for 9mm, there thats my statement.

I have reloaded for it in the past but mostly high end stuff like Silvertips, Sierra's, Golden Sabers...

For just shooting holes in paper, I have better things to do with my time than reload for 9mm.

.223, I have no problem reloading for that, I do not own any .223 factory ammo, .45 ACP, if you already have the brass, reloading for it is a no brainer as well, but 9mm sorry guys, you won't get any competion from me on chasing down components.

That being said, I still offer my assistance to the OP in getting started on reloading.

It's funny you mention 223. I guess we are just different. 223 is the only round I refuse to load. Too much time involved in rifle loading when you can get 223 dirt cheap. I was loading it for 22cents a round and can buy it for 25cents a round. Loading 223 got old real quick.

On a single stage considering time it's hard to justify any reloading. Kind of like the guys that say they don't reload because if they figure the value of their time reloading doesn't make sense. Hard to argue with that. I make over $70 an hour at my job (I teach HS math) so if I figured my time was worth that reloading would never make sense monitarily.
