My first official reloading learning session

I was over Bruceflinches place today and I learned how to measure powder with a scale. Not the electronic type, but the beam scale.

    1 lb. has 7000 grains

I used the powder thrower to dispense powder and I measured it. Then Bruce verified the measurement on his electronic scale.
For some reason, I had a good time measuring. Weird huh?

I also learned how to adjust the powder thrower and measure case lengths with a set of calipers.

Nice to have someone show you. I just started reloading a few months ago with nobody to show me - its a little intimidating on your own.

OHOD is a fast learner. She asks good questions, too. She already knew how to use the dial calipers. I've never used anything but the digital ones!
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

Baby Steps! I seriously doubt you made much more progress in your first hour at the reload bench.
We spent 4 hours at the range shooting, 90 min lunch & an hour in the garage. I have 3 presses setup. OHOD's is in a box & we went over the various tools, how they worked, etc. She still has some reading to do.

Welcome. Soon shooting will become secondary. You'll shoot so you can get back home, tumble that brass and keep working up that perfect load....

                        It'll get old fast.

You can also make a go/no-go gauge out of the calipers by setting the dial at the max value you want, locking the slide and trying to pass each case through the opening. Sorting that way will save a good bit of time if you're trimming by hand.

There are some really well done youtube videos on reloading. Watching some gives a good idea of the steps. Even an old timer can pick up some tips!

Remember to dial 1 before 911.

Forget about stopping power. If you can't hit it, you can't stop it.
