Not much of a reader.


What is the best must have book for reloading?



I will probably be reloading Handgun and Rifle rounds.

ABC of Reloading is good for info. Lyman's has step by step info + recipes for all the common calibers.

I have a couple editions of the ABC's of Reloading, and a bunch of other guides/manuals. But I honestly think the NRA Guide to Reloading is the best first read.

I only have "Lyman's 49th" and taught me everything I needed to know. Also have a bunch of recipes.

I have them all except the Swift bullet one and the best, especially for starters, is the Lyman book. I honestly found little in The ABC'S of reloading and it was the most wasted money I felt of any books I have.

"We" (as in my Stepdad and I, not Allied) are new to reloading and everyone I talked to (outside of here) also recommended this book. It is the one we picked up to start with after a lot of research.

I may get grief for this but! The best "reading" book on reloading is the Complete Guide to Handloading by Phil Sharpe. It was first published in 1937 and was printed several times up to 1953. You can get it on Amazon and sometimes eBay. Used ones run about $75. It has an incredible amount of information, much of it still valid today. It has really interesting info on tons of obsolete cartridges, powder, tools and, techniques. Need reloading data for a 280 Ross or a 30 Newton? It's in there.

Any of the big companies put out reloading guides, and any of them are equal in information. Maybe not readability, though! I'd go with Speer or Lyman. I find Lyman to be most readable, and Speer the most helpful. But I freely admit I haven't read them all. I did find Hornady less enjoyable reading than the Speer book, and Sierra just overwhelmed me with it's size, so that wasn't as fun.
