Q about copper plated bullets?

Hey all, I wanted to start reloading my 10mm, .45, and .308 more and I came across xtremebullets.com that sells inexpensive copper plated bullets. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these bullets? How are these compared to FMJ? How's the accuracy, quality, etc? Thanks in advance.

They work great, although i highly doubt you will be able to use them in .308. Typically you shouldnt push these past 1200 fps. Fine for .45 but even 10mm might be too fast.

Other than that they work great, the acuracy is fine, the load should be somewhere between lead and FMJ

I use them in .40, .45, and .30 carbine. You can get jacketed at the same price as noylj mentioned. The instant gratification factor and the desire to support my local shop keeps me buying xtreem though .

I use Berry's plated bullets for .357 sig, 357 mag, and .45. They perform great. I even use the same load data from my jacketed bullets.

I was going to try out Montana Gold, but their website sells them by the thousand.
IIRC, Midway had a 100 or 250 pack of Montana Gold.

I visited their facilities about 8 or 9 years ago but, I think it's under new ownership since then. I used to use them almost exclusively. Now, I cast as much as I can and just use the cheapest stuff I can find for anything else. Obviously, for hunting and competitive shooting, I use higher grades of bullets but, those are the exceptions.

Actually, I use the .308 "30 carbine" bullets in my Remington 788 .308 bolt rifle with great success. Use 7-11 grains of Unique with a plain LR primer. After firing, you can neck size and the cases will last almost forever. 1-2" accuracy at 100 yards with recoil and report about that of a .22 magnum. Great for kids and very inexpensive at about $0.10 per bullet or about $0.15/shot with powder and primer. 11g Unique averages 1760fps out of a 22" barrel.

As for .40 and .45, the Xtreme bullets work fine. I've gone through 500 each with my M&P40 and 1911, but have since gone to Bear Creek moly coated lead bullets just because they're about $10 cheaper. They shoot the same and no leading even with the .40 pills going around 1080. I've even averaged 1168 with a load of .357's, but usually just use mid range loads for hunting circles printed on paper.

xtreme are decent for pistols. for your 308, I would get those 150gr hornady bullets that go for $0.18 - $0.19 on midwayusa.com.

I do the same in my .30-30 Marlin. Great plinking rounds and no shoulder pain the following day. The .30 Carbine bullets I have a .310, but with the Marlin microgroove rifling, they work fine.

+1 on Montana Gold and Precision Delta. For 10MM and .357/.44 Magnum, I wouldn't use plated bullets.

Even though these are from Berry's they are FMJ, not plated .30 bullets. Plenty of other places to buy from, and many brands to choose from. Another inexpensive brand is PRVI.
