    WTK which case tumbler

I have an older Midway tumbler (1292). I'd like to get a bigger tumbler and was considering a Lyman 2500 or a Dillon 2001. I like some input as to which tumblers you guys out there are using and what you based that decision on.

I bought the Midway back around 95 and the only thing I had to fix on it was to resolder a loose wire, which was caused by me. I'll probably keep the Midway for a back up or to do some small polishing jobs.

The Dillon is like a vibratory bathtub so if you are doing 50BMG brass you'll be just fine. As far as quality, I've never heard a bad thing about any of them. Heck, you can get a decent one at Harbor Freight on sale if you time it right.

i cannot recomend the blue vibratory by chicago tools from harbor freight the bowl kept loosening and rotating i needed to add some spacers on the middle rod to support the center fastening area of the bowl because tighting it only made the bowl deform

but after that it works great so only get it if you dont mind fixing it first

I have 2 Lyman 1200's and one of the big Dillons. I use the Lymans for small quantaties and the Dillon for the BIG loads...

I have had a small Midway tumbler from the mid 90s. Has worked fine, but bought the big Dillon a few years back to keep up with the 650 press. Still use the Midway for moly coating bullets. Just come over to the Blue side!

How much can you get in the Dillon?

I have been using Lymans and I really get tired of cycling load after load through them, pretty much running them around the clock some days. Sure would be nice to bang everything out at once.

                  I usually average 200 308 casings.. and maybe 500 30 carbine casings

                    Get the big Dillon tumbler.
                    I have 2 of them.

For those of you that only have a small midway tumbler, you won't believe how much quieter the big Dillon tumbler is the first time you run it.

I do all my tumbling on the back porch.

In order to run a Midway tumbler, it goes inside a plastic tote box, lid flaps closed over the running tumbler and then a furniture pad over the tote.
This just makes it managable to run without bothering the neighbors.

I run the big Dillon tumbler without any sound shielding and the neighbors don't complain.

I soke to a salesman at Dillon yesterday and asked him some questions about the 2100 tumbler ($165). The tumbler does not have a clear lid option which kind of sucks. He told me clear lids would get scratched. The Dillon comes with a one year warranty. If it breaks in the first year, send it back and they will either fix it or replace it, shipping covered. After the warranty is over, Dillon will repair the tumbler but the motor is $95 plus to replace. The motor to their smaller tumbler costs $29 to replace.

I'm kind of leaning towards the Lyman (model 2200 for $100 or model 2500 for $75). Is the Lyman a good brand to go with? The only experience I have with tumblers is the old Midway 1292. I'd like to go with a good quality tumbler and did not want a cement mixer or a Harbor Freight tumbler.

Clear lids won't matter because the dust inside the tumbler turns them into brown lids.
You won't be able to see through it without taking it off to clean it.
I don't really see the value in a clear lid.
You will quickly figure out how long you need to tumble in order for the brass to be clean.
I usually start a load in the morning and change it out at lunchtime.

While Dillon only warrantees the tumblers for a year, I don't know anyone that's ever had one die.
One of mine is 10+ years old and the other is at least 5 years.
The motor on the big Dillon is a HUGE ball bearing motor.
Comparing it to the Midway tumbler you have will make you laugh at the little Midway motor.
I killed two Midway tumblers in less than 2 year before I got a Dillon tumbler.

I'm not familiar with the Lyman tumbler so I can't pass judgement.
Everyone I shoot with has either Midway or Dillon tumblers.

You can't beat Harbor Freight's tumbler for $29 when it goes on sale every other week. You have to call the store to get the sale price. As far as the bowl rotating, they now ship with a center washer that sits under the top cover which prevents the bowl from rotating.

My RCBS tumbler is sitting next to it with a dead motor after 3 months.

i havent seen it on sale for 29 i think the sale price is $35 mine came like this from bottom up center rod then bowl, rubber washer,1 1/4 disk washer ,star lock washer, nylock nut, spacer tube,1 1/4 disk washer lid, rubber washer, attached to 1 1/4 washer then the wingnut

it was spinning after an hour i kept tighting the locknut but it was just sinking in so i took off the bowl and added a couple 3/4 thick wood plugs from a 1 1/8 hole saw holes to have something the nylock to work against now works great

i can even run it with the lid off now i do this to get the super fine dust out by running it with the lid off and a fan running outside of course i am probably polluting with micro lead dust
