    are these carbide dies?

I bought a lee classic turret press years ago which came with three sets of 45 acp dies and a set of 223 dies. I recently bought a lee progressive press which came with 45 acp and 44 magnum dies (i dont have/reload for .44, yet). As a result, i have decided to sell the extra dies i have as i will keep the ones that came with the new press, as well as the set i used on my lct.

I never ever used these dies im looking to sell, and the lee dies come in a box labeled as carbide, but honestly, i dont see carbide on the mouth of the dies. The rcbs dies look similar except for the die in the middle which clearly looks like it has a carbide insert. The rcbs box is labeled as a 3 die set, but has an extra die (i suspect the previous owner bought the extra carbide die and added it to this set).

Can any of you verify if i am correct on my observations? Also, what would be a fair price to sell these dies for? Thanks in advance.

first pic bottem row second one, date of 78 is a carbide die, look inside and you will see a insert at the bottem, then look at the other dies to see if they look like that.

most carbide dies says they are on top or on the side, only sizing dies will be carbide.

I wasnt sure of this. Thank you. The lee sizing die does not look like that, and the rcbs carbide die does not have the decapping pin on it, but it is on the non carbide sizing die, it appears.

So, it looks like the lee two die set is a non carbide sizer/decapper and expander die set. And the rcbs is a 3 die non carbide set + a carbide sizing die which the previous owner probably used to size already primed cases. Im pretty sure thats what i got here. Any ideas on value of these?

the first lee die pics first die looks to be a carbide die, you can see two different metals at the bottem rim.

price on them idk as i have seen used dies go for 15-40

Do you mean the one on the left? That's an expander die. I think it might look like two metals because it's chamfered and it might be the light reflecting at a different angle. Im pretty sure the other lee die is not carbide. It looks like it might be a different color on the inside in one of the pics, but you can see it better in the other one.

is that $15-40 for the set? or were you talking about just the carbide die?

Great. Thanks for the info. I'm not looking to get "top dollar" for these dies. I really have no use for them, especially now. Hell, I didn't have a use for them before I got another set that came with the press. Haha. But just looking to finally get rid of these superfluous dies. I'll see if anyone has 9mm dies or something else for trade.

Interesting side note about the lee set, the decapper and sizing die has about a 1/16" gap all the way around a .45 casing inserted, and doesnt have a caliber engraved. I'm thinking the carbide insert is missing?

Or it's for a different caliber. It'll probably just be a freebie.

could be a universal decapper only.

That would explain the lack of a caliber engraving. Thanks again for the input.
