    Chronograph Question

Well, I brought my Chrony to the range for the first time on Saturday and it was a confusing adventure. I have a few questions...

First it wouldn't pick up all the shots. Second, I was getting readings that were WAY spread out. Third, I don't know how far in front of the muzzle to place the chrony (at about 2 feet the muzzle blast was blowing the diffusers off the Chrony)

Here's the numbers on two 5 shot sets:

    2506
    2688
    2682
    2721
    3236*

    --- these two didn't register. Out of 60 shots 12 didn't register.
    ---
    2283
    2824
    3244*

What do you think? I was thinking there may not be enough light at the shooting bench but there was a skylight right over the area where I had it placed, but no direct light coming in though.

    Any ideas?

I believe 10 feet is the norm for how far from the muzzle to place the chrony. With mine to close and you get weirdness. It is an Shooting Chrony Alpha

First: Probably the amount of light. My PACT is picky about this as well.

Second: 10-12 feet is what I do, basically the length of the cable from the main unit to the sky screens.

My first outing with the Chrony was kinda frustrating, Lotta missed shots unit I realized the light issue.

Most chronies won't work well indoors unless they have a setting/option for "indoor/flourescent light"

I've used mine in full sun and overcast days. I always shoot outdoors and never had much of an issue with light but then again there is no way for me to get my chrono under cover and still shoot over it.

Between the wires, above the box, below the light filters

The CED chronograph has an optional UV setup for indoor use. Do these others have that option?

                        Bummer!

I may need to bring some type of light source to hang above the shooting bench where I shoot on overcast days.... it's a private gun club and they only run the generators for larger events. So theres no lights (usually not needed) at the rifle range.
