stuck brass case....

So it happen. Got a brass case stuck into the resizing die. I quickly you tube the solution and
Drilled and tapped the case and extracted it from the die with a 5mm bolt. Does the die get damaged do to a stuck brass case? I don't think so because brass is softer then harden steel but Im a lil fresh in reloading? Any input out there?

What Joe said.I move the cases around to spread the lube.I have stuck a few in 39 years.Pisses me off to no end,for not using enough or having all cases covered.Welcome to reloading.

First stuck case I had I damaged the decapping part trying to pound it out. $4 for the replacement and all is good now. I also purchased bits and pieces from ace hardware to remove the next stuck case (if/when that happens). The bits and pieces were about 1/3 the cost of the kits I was seeing online. I also switched to homemade spray on lube because I wasn't liking the effort involved in the Lee paste (which is what caused me to under lube and get stuck in the first place).

Before you go trying to whack the case out, back the decapping pin out of the case and pull it, then drill and tap. Like the others said, make sure you use enough case lube, applied evenly to the brass.

Also, make sure to clean the die thoroughly to remove any brass shavings that might still be in it after you got the stuck case out. I sometimes use the stuck case as an indicator it's time for me to clean out and re-lube all the dies on the press.

how do you get the expander out of the neck when the neck is jammed up into the die?

I never was able to. I just back it out as much as I could to avoid the drill bit from accidently hitting the expander ball/stem.

Here is my story. I just started recently loading .223 / 5.56. The second case got stuck in the FL die!!!! @#$^$#@%^ This is after I lubed the case with the Lee lube. The FL die is a LEE. I moved the die from the LEE classic turret to my Old Faithful Rock Chucker. I took off the collet that holds the depriming pin in place. I took a malet and struck the top of the primer/expander ball stem. It knocked out the case with no problem. Then I found that the case was still stuck to the stem. Got the dremil out and cut off the case. No visible damage to the stem or die. Put it back together and finished off resizing my brass. Yes I did lube the inside of the neck. I couldn't believe this happened, but I was happy to get it resolved in under 20 minutes.

Depending on the construction/brand of die I have backed off the exp/decap rod lock nut, double nutted it, and using the friction of the exp ball to neck, unscrewed the exp ball from the rod.
It usually works :-)
