New to reloading, question about depriming

So I want to setup a simple press just for depriming brass before I tumble it, if I get the LEE Reloader press for $24 and the LEE universal deprimer die for $8.50, do I still need any kind of bushing or cartridge specific shell holder??

Yes, but you can buy a universal shell holder set. Lee makes one. Some of the shell holders will work for more than one caliber, but depending on how many calibers you have you'll probably just want to set.

You will need a caliber specific shell holder to hold the shell in the press while the decap die comes down and pops the primer out. Lee sells them as well.

I would just lube and resize, then tumble. The fewer steps the better. Tumbling with no spent primers has no advantage.

Unless its a shell with a crimped primer pocket (military surplus) skip the deprimer die. Some Lee die sets come with a shell holder.

I have found that if I size/deprime then tumble the flash holes come out better. When I try to load new primers without tumbling the gunk in there causes me to bust more primers than usual.
What I mean is when I don't tumble after decapping I'll screw up, on average, 4/100 primers. When I tumble after depriming I don't think I have ever had a problem putting in primers.

Plus, tumbling with primers causes my media to get dirtier faster.

After seeing the difference between my tumbler with walnut media and my buddies setup with SS, I was convinced. Even if someone broke out a sliderule and proved mathematically that it makes no difference at all, it just looks AWESOME

Before you go buy a set of shellholders though, consider that if you buy a die set, (needed for reloading) it will come with a shellholder as well as all the dies you will need. Lee makes a great die set imho.

IIRC only Lee die sets come with a shell holder. None of the other brands do.
But I agree, Lee dies work great.
