    Plated Bullets in Glock Barrel?

I am interested in using Xtreme plated bullets in 9 mm for my Glock 17, but I can't find a solid answer on whether or not they'd be all right for the polygonal barrel. I've just received some samples from Xtreme in a variety of weights (115, 124, and 147) and shapes (RN and Flat) so I can try them out. There are maybe 20 of each type in my sample pack so I'll probably cook up three different charges of each so I can see how they do.

My goal is to find a bullet/charge combination that...
    • Cycles/Feeds properly
    • Makes nice holes in paper
    • Meets proper power factor for competition
    • Is accurate

I have Winchester primers and W231 powder to use. My press is a Dillion XL 650.

Does anyone have experience with flat-nose bullets in a Glock 17? Is it better to use the heavier bullets with lower velocity to achieve the proper power factor, or the other way around?

Thank you for any advice and I apologize if this is one of those topics that has been discussed to death. I really did try to search before posting.

Plated are fine to use. So is lead as long as they aren't leading your barrel.

Your best bet it to use heavier bullets. You can get your G17 to function with lower amounts of powder. The recoil will be lower as well.
Round nose or flat, your Glock won't care.
I'll post some loads when I get to my computer that I've run in my Glock.

Do not use them in your Glock! They will blow it up. Send them all to me immediately and I will dispose of them properly (by shooting them thru my Glocks) Send the powder and primers also, far to dangerous. No, they are all fine, plated, jacketed and moly coated.

        Cycles/Feeds properly
is a function of bullet shape and overall length

        Makes nice holes in paper
a hole is a hole, doesn't matter for the games, its not Bullseye

Meets proper power factor for competition
you'll need a chrono to know

        Is accurate
start with the powder makers lowest number, work up 6 or so at time at .3 grain increments to max, also play with overall lenght. Somewhere in the mix you will find the right combo.

I run 125 TC's and 115 JHP, but alot of guys shoot 147's in 9mm. All make the power floor, but some say the heavys shoot softer, but they don't cycle as fast. Depends on what you like.

Here are my mouse fart loads. All function fine, but as you can see, the Bullseye load won't quite make Minor, but it's close:

            842 x 147 = 123774

The WST and WSF both make Minor easy.

I assume you're wanting to make Minor, not Major, right?

These 3 loads are about as low as you can go coming close to Minor and functioning a stock glock.

            Hope this helps.

I'm looking to make minor, but more than just barely. Something like 130 would be my target.

I shoot 124gr almost exclusively in 9mm. It was the weight that 9mm was invented in. To me it's the perfect compromise of the 115gr and 147gr bullets.

agreed. Just dont see many commercial loads besides HD ammo in it, except European manufactures it seems.

I normally load a 124 plated HP @ 3.6 I believe, but very short OAL.The CZ hates normal OAL with them. Switching to the berrys 124g RNHB once im out of these.

That WST load makes 129.5 and shoots awesome. Dirty though. The pro's use titegroup under 147gr bullets but I've never cared for it because it's so low density. I prefer something with more bulk like WST.

I think you're going to like the way the heavier bullets feel more than the light ones. Less snap and more push. Faster target acquisition.

                      3.6gr of what?

I didn't know Berry's makes hollow base 124gr 9mm's. That's great news. I shoot the RNHB's in 380 and love them. I'll definitely give the 9mm a shot next time I place an order through them.

sorry, win 231. Going to give WST a try once Im done with this last pound.
Just checked my notes, and turns out I was crazy. Its 4.3 OAL of 1.03 runnign 1060FPS

The RNHB are relatively new. I haven't seem them available from anyone but berrys direct and powder valley yet.

My Glock 17 loves the 115gr X-treme plated. I load them with 4.7gr of W231. A very accurate load. I have had several friends shoot them and prefer them over factory.

I shoot plated through my H&Ks polygonal barrel all the time. They work great, never had any problems.

When I was shooting competitively, 4.4gr of 231 under a 124gr plated bullet was my go to load. Shot around 80k of those in 4-5 years.
