    SCHOOL ME ON DECAPPING DIE

    Do I really need one?

The store website says it easily removes crimped in primers.

Most of my stored brass are LC, which is probably crimped.

If you're referring to a universal decapping die, no, you don't need one to remove crimped primers. Your regular sizing die will remove them just fine.

It doesn't hurt to have one on the bench. Mine comes in handy now and then when I want to decap some random pieces of brass all at once.

But you do not need to have one to remove crimped primers.

Like XDRoX said, you don't need one. Your regular sizing die will decap it just fine. You will need to swage or ream off the crimp though.

        Depends on your dies.

I used a RCBS sizing die to decap/size LC 30.06 and I tended to break a lot of pins on crimped primers.

I then purchased a Lee decapping die and have had no problems with crimped primers.

I purchased a Dillon Super Swage to remove crimps in all my surplus ammo (Probably 5000 rounds of 7.5 x 55, 30.06 & .556)

I'm trying to minimize my Carbon footprint by recycling brass & reloading
Spreading the WORD according to COLT. and Smith, Wesson, Ruger, HK, Sig, High Standard, Browning

            Universal decapper

I deprime first and then tumble to clean the brass before they touch my sizing dies. I don't have problems with media in flash holes because the decapper in the sizing dies cleans them. I can also deprime and clean 'range free' brass I don't have dies for. I store for friends or future use.

              Need? nope.

But I bought one anyways. Figured I'd decap then yumble, but the pockets don't clean in vibratory tumblers that way. Oh well. But I still like having it, there's always that need to decap something that's been belled or sized and I don't want to work it again, etc. Comes in handy.

Not something I'd buy because I had a need, but if you got a spare 20 bucks, or see one at a gunshow for $5, can't not pick it up.

                I agree with WhiteRabbit:

                Need? nope.

However, if you're using the wet/stainless tumbling method, and decapping before tumbling/swaging?

                Want/use? yes.
