Scrap brass or sort and sell?

I've been collecting brass from my local outdoor range with the intention of scrapping it at a local scrap yard. While researching I found I may be bale to sort and sell it for more money. My question is is it worth it for me to sort the brass? Because I can't gaurentee the condition/boxer primed/deprimed etc I would probably end up selling it really cheap (most likely at heavy discount) is this even safe? What caliber are worth doing this for? I have a ton of 223, 9mm, and 45 so I figure those ones arent worth too much, but I did pick up some 308 Marlin, 357 sig, and 357mag which I think are kind of rare.

Or is it more cost efficient for me to just say F it and scrap the entire lot? I have around 100 lbs of brass thus far...

9mm is $20-25/K shipped.

40 is $25-30/K shipped.

45 is double the .40 shipped at $50-60/K.

357 SIG is same as 40.

Id be interested in cheap 223, 45 acp 44mag. If it were me id sort and sell it all.

I'd say it would be worth sorting out and selling, just as a "gun people helping eachother out" kinda thing, if nothing else. It's certainly worth more as cartridge cases than you will get for scrap value.

To separate anything you're not sure about, hit questionable pieces with a magnet as you sort. If the magnet doesn't stick and it looks like brass, it most likely is brass. To determine priming, look down into the case (a small flashlight is handy for rifle cases). If you see 2 holes it is Berdan primed and not worth much for reloading, unless it is something scarce. If you see 1 hole and the case is brass, you are good to go. You will quickly learn to tell at a glance which cases are good and which aren't, by both appearance and headstamp.

Thanks guy, I guess I'll be sorting it and selling it at a steep discount because it's not really worth my time to inspect each case for a Berdan primer. I figure even at a steep discount I'd be coming out far ahead of what I would get from scrapping the brass.

mixed headstamp once fired .223 goes for $45-$50/1000 shipped.
single headstamp once fired .223 goes for $60-$65 shipped

but now we're talking about range brass of unknown quality...
I'd pay maybe $20-$25/1k, more expensive than that and I might as well buy known good brass.
