What happened to this primer?!

This is factory .357sig ammo I purchased today from Proforce in Brea.



The primer looks like it has some sort of ... wheat grain looking powder in it.

Do I send this back to remington or the whole box?

Seated on the side which smashed the primer powder out. This pic shows the anvil side of a boxer primer to give you a better idea of its orientation.


Send a pic to remm with lot number and you might get a free box.

that primer is in there sideways. pull the bullet. if this is the only one you have no reason to send the box back, you could email them to let them know about it.

During a match, a friend had one like that. When he fired the gun the chamber smoked and he thought he had a squib so he slowly pulled the bolt back and was relieved to see the bullet still in the case however he did lose that stage.

Every once in a couple hundred I'll get a sideways seated primer. Not the primers fault. Blow off the primer seater and move on.

As everyone stated, sideway primer. The wheat grain powder you commented looks like the cleaning media used before the packaging of the round.

One of the steps I take when I reload is perform a visual inspection of my loaded rounds. I've also caught a couple of sideway primers in the past before during my inspection.

I'll bet your friend inspects his ammo as he loads his mags now.

With how ever many thousands of factory rounds I have shot I have never had one have an issue. But somehow at least 1 out of ever 1000 handloads I seat a primer just like that.....

I do that every once in a while, no big deal. Ive even mashed a primer up really good trying to force it into a crimped pocket and it still didnt go off.
