    7.5X55 Die

I'm new at this reloading stuff I tried to decap a Swiss 7.5X55 and broke the pin off, I though I had some great brass to reload it was GP11 and I looked down into the case and there were two small holes that did not match the die. I called Lee and ordered the new part 4.00 and 7.00 shipping. My next attempt is 8mm Mauser I have good brass need the dies...

Graff&Sons is your friend. Order some boxer type primer brass from them which will have the single hole in the center which works with regular dies. This is also true of most non-USA made 8mm ammo also. So order the 7.5swiss and 8mmMauser at the same time.

You "saved"??? on the cheaper lee dies but cost you $11 for a decap pin and you still have junk so-called locking rings. Had you bought RCBS/Hornady dies they would have sent you a pack of 5 replacements for free.

You are fairly new to reloading. In time you will learn. Expeirence is when you get the test before the lesson. Do not feel bad we all have to learn.

If you were near me I would help you out if you wanted and show you things I have learned over the years. That is one reason it is helpfull to put your town at the top.

Please, find someone close to you who is willing to mentor you a bit. Breaking a decapping pin is no big deal but, aren't you afraid that you might make a more dangerous rookie mistake?

That GP11 ammo is good stuff to shoot, however as you have discovered it is Berdan primed and difficult to reload for a beginner. Save it as in time you may learn how to load it. Berdan primers are very difficult to find. Check with Triple R Munitions here on Calguns He is a member and I bought some boxer primed 7.5x55 brass from him a while back. I think he has more. Or buy a couple boxes of commercial 7.5X55 to get some brass.

GP11 brass is easy to reload once you learn one of the techniques to remove the Berdan primer. Once it's out it's no different than boxer brass except you need a sizing die WITHOUT the decap pin on the expander ball. Any die with a replaceable pin will work, just remove the pin. BigBronco is correct though, Berdan primers are almost impossible to find. I have gotten lucky, there's an old time that sells at the southern CA gun shows and he has found several small quantities for me. I also may have a source for Tula Berdan primers and if it pans out, I'll let everybody know. I need to get some and test them out, I've heard good and bad about Tula primers. I have reloaded not thousands yet but many hundreds of GP11 cases. I can be done.

Which means you did not read and/or understand the part in the manual where it explains about primers/brass. If you do not have a Lyman manual I would suggest you get one and read it. It is also an excellant source of data for many different cartridges.

If you are near me I will gladly help you get started.

I have broke pins over the years. No big deal. I was sizing a bunch of 30-06 brass I came across and low and behold there was some berdan mixed in the brass I bought. I had never run in to berdan 30-06 before so I missed it. Irritating but one moves on.

of course everyone who doesn't do it your way is a moron and making a newb feel stupid about a purchase already made is definitely the neighborly thing to do.

I learned to reload from books alone because the level of knowitall douchebags in the world was more than I could take. Nice to see the old traditions being carried on.

I actually turned two Berdan cases into Boxer cases before the pin broke all the while wondering why I had to use 2 hands and lean on press lever......
