Off to the range to try out my Chrony and test some loads.

I picked up a Shooting Chrony F1 a few weeks ago and finally have a day to try it out. Going up to the family property to try out some .30-06 Garand, .308, 6.8SPC and 5.56 loads. Sure hope this thing works!

I forgot to pick up a roll of paper for the printer, so unless my next door neighbor the account has some, guess I'll be doing a lot of writing today.

    Wish me luck!

Chrony worked perfectly, as long as I kept it aligned to the rising sun.

Had to pack up early since my nephew has an English paper due in the morning, but I got some good readings on my 5.56 62, 69 and 77 grain loads, as well as on the 6.8SPC and .308 plinking loads. Broke in the new 6.8 and .308 with about 10 rounds of Remington UMC factory ammo first then fired around 10 of each hand load.

I'm going to make up some additional loads this week and take it out again next weekend to fine tune the loads, after I crunch through the numbers. All of the loads shot pretty accurately (well, as accurate as could be expected based on the nut behind the buttplate) and I didn't have any flyers. I didn't have the best bench rest setup (old wobbly picnic table and bench), which I'm sure effected my rifle control. We're building a better bench, a few inches taller than a standard table and very, very stable plus I've got some better seating arrangements in mind for next time.

Basically, I'm happy I didn't blow up my gun or shoot a hole in the chronograph.

Hint. Bring along a .22LR, BB gun, airsoft or something that shoots cheaply. That way you can test out the Chrony to make sure everything is good to go before you start shooting the expensive or information-ally valuable stuff.

Lol. Did the same thing this morning @ Burro Cyn. My loads were really weird, 75gr Hornady Match w/new LC brass, CCI#41 primers and H335 ranging from 20 gr. To 22gr. Not good groups at all using a rest. Back to the drawing board I guess.
I was using a stevens .223 bolt gun.
