reloading components going up in price?

I got an email from CDNN that contained their add flyer in which it states "Hurry beat the ammo price increase...ammo to go up 10% to 25% due to component price increase". Is this about to happen? I thought that with the troops coming home there would be a surplus. Any truth to this? or more FUD

    Price increases

Seems logical to me. The metals market is driven by supply vs. demand, and right now China is said to be heavily buying copper (and other metals) supplies.

Not to mention the regulatory climate in the the US which is effecting the mining and smelting of raw materials. All of this is reducing the development of new domestic supplies and increasing the cost of both existing and future products.

Then there is the increasing costs of energy. Obama has stated that he wants to reduce the use of coal fired generation plants, while new nuclear plants remain untenable (remember Obama cancelled the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Disposal Site in 2009), and hydroelectric sources are under constant pressure from the Marxist environmental movement. These, and other factors, are causing a continual increase in electricity cost, and reducing the supply.

Now comes the cost of transportation. With each reduction in domestic supply, increase in environmental regulation raises cost of crude oil stocks, refining and distributing finished products. The foreign oil market also negatively effects our pump price. Couple this with new emission regulations on over-the-road diesel tractors and railroad locomotives, the capital outlay for new equipment and operational costs must be passed through to the consumer. These increases raise the cost at every stage of manufacture, distribution and sale, an insidious value added tax. This effects not only just ammunition components, but every article in commerce from machine tools to bread.

Then we find the money isn't worth as much - inflation devalues every dollar not backed on gold or silver. I found two boxes of bullets in my stock from the 1970's and '80's. A box of 100 Winchester .224 53 grain Match Bullets went for $5.25, while a box of .22 Cal 55 gr Hornady SX bullets sold for $4.20. A can of powder went for $2.64. When every dollar value of the Gross National Product is consumed to service the debit, we arrive at a situation where the government has stripped away the worth of all our productivity - essentially mortgaging our labor and property as collateral for the debit. This may be why our reserves of oil and minerals has been placed off-limit for exploration and development, so it can be used as collateral for borrowing from China and other foreign investors.

So, are the prices of components going up - you answer the question.

Current prices look like they are lower than they have been in the last year:

Prices always go up - a sign of a healthy economy. I think it was Forrest Tucker's character who tried to pass that off as wisdom to John Wayne's character in Chisum. Didn't wash then, sure doesn't now. I'm old enough to be cynical about everything and, while I agree with your points, there has to be a degree of conspiracy (price fixing and anti-gun sentiment) in there, too! Life wouldn't be much fun without conspiracy!

All market forces and economic factors aside, this sounds more like FUD and marketing BS to me. I imagine they want you to buy their existing stock now that cost them more when prices were higher three to six months ago, before the current market drives prices still lower and increases their loss. Component availability seems much better now then it was a year or two ago, and prices have dropped some accordingly.

Cast your own and be done with it. Collect your brass from ranges. Then the only things you need are powder and primers. That's part of how I keep reloading so affordable.

I have seen only a slight increase in overall components cost in the past year. I think on powders our prices only went up about 75 cents per pound and on bullets the prices went up a hair.

The prices did go up around March or April of this year if I have my months right. But after that prices has stabilized. I have not heard of any price increase lately.
