    Semi newb .308 brass questions

    Hey Fellas
Have a few questions reguarding several different cases.
Decided to size and prime about 2000 308 cases have several catagorys each will end up in lets start with the old Browning cases seem to be really old but really cool tumbled over nite still dull has the brass got weaker/stronger?

Next is Winchester cases I have a boat load W-W super, W-W Super speed
WRA, Win, and so on any difference in quality?

Next is Federal some are marked F.C. Win .308, some F.C. 09, or 08 thinking it's the date. I also see fed gold metal brass for sale is that any better will it say fed gold metal.

Think this is the gun but.. my buddy got a new fal all the cases shot were new F.C. all show a ring above the web and sizing is a real fight so much so that Im gonna toss em dont want to get one stuck. To me it seems the chamber may be a lil big or the action is not in full battery whats your thoughts? I reload brass from an M-1-A, Saiga,( HK-91 Just wrecks the brass,)
Winchester 70, and pretty much what ever i can get my hands on none sticks like the brass from the FAL.

As you can tell working on non crimped commercial brass in a few weeks we will touch on mil-surp I have a lot of trimming and no fancy pants trimmer.
    thanx
I used to reload so I could shoot more, now I shoot more so I can reload more.

I use once fired Fed Gold Metal brass for my reload. And they marked F.C.Win .308 at the base. I am not sure how good they are, but the Fed Gold Metal is not a bad round, so my guess the brass is not that bad.

F.C. 09, or 08 might be mil surplus brass. They may have a thicker wall then commercial brass. I could be wrong.

Sentences that contain single complete thoughs will greatly add to the quality of the responses you receive.

For plinking ammo all .308 Winchester brass is essentially interchangeable other than potentially needing the crimped primer pockets swaged or reamed.

Fancy trimmers are not necessary, the simple ones work just fine.

        Sizing brass from Auto guns

Brass from a Fal or M1A will still be expanding as it is thrown from the rifle. I use RCBS small base dies for this brass. You also want to run the die down to the shell plate and then give it another half turn. This will make sure the brass shoulder is properly set. There are those who disagree with me about this on this forum, but I have never had a round fail to chamber because of sizing.
        I won't be wronged
        I won't be insulted
And I won't be laid a hand on.
I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.....John Wayne

The cases marked FC with a date like 08 or 09 are mil surp cases. I bought a bunch last year brand new from brassman in vegas and have been really happy with them. They came primed with crimped in primer pockets and they were annealed. They have a little bit smaller capacity than commercial federal cases which are marked FC 308 WIN but its not a problem unless you run your loads on the hot side.
WRA brass usually comes from Winchester NATO rounds like white box 147gr. Its good stuff too.
Invest in a primer pocket uniformer like the sinclair, I run mine in the battery drill. you also want a primer pocket swadge like the dillon 600 and a drop in case gauge from Wilson or Lyman is a must. You need to be careful that the cases are sized properly and the primers are below flush, If an M1a ignites a primer out of battery, you and your rifle could be involved in a catastrophic event...
Gas guns are really hard on brass, the rule is no more than 4 firings from the M1a. I like to use Lace City since it is thicker and harder from the start. Save the Federal and W-W commercial cases for your bolt gun, they are softer and the primer pockets usually loosen up after the third firing. You can switch to Wolf primers to coax a little more life out of them after that happens. After the fourth or fifth firing, the neck tension gets lousy and accuracy craps the bed.
