Hornady LnL AP Question

I have a quick question about the Hornady LnL AP. Is there a different case feeder that isn't motorized? Can you just get the feed tube and not the motorized hopper?

The reason I am asking is I would like to get a progressive press and the AP looks like a great press but I don't really want to spend almost double to get an auto feed case feeder with the press. By getting just the press, it would seem that placing a case and a bullet before each pull would get rather tedious and not really be that much faster.

Ideally, there would be a case feeder like the one Lee uses. Simple, inexpensive, effective. Or, just the case feed tube that I could put 50 or 60 cases in, load and refill.

Or, I guess I could just go with the Lee Loadmaster. I have been happy with both companies products but I like the reviews of the LnL and I have been able to see one in person which I haven't been able to do with the Lee.

Here's info RE a bullet feeder for the Hornady. IMO it speeds reloading almost as much as does a case feeder. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=468400
The LNL is so much better than the Load Master there's no comparison.

I do not believe so. I have the LnL The I callled Hornady and asked if I could buy the parts separately and was told no. You could go the $28.00 bullet feeder and only put the cases in. I think I saw a youtube video once of a guy who built his own case feeder. I have the case feeder and It works OK to a point. Kind of a pain to set it up and it does not work completely flawlessly cases hang up in the drop shoot. I am sure with time I can work out the bugs.

No, I never though of using the interweb to ask a question or research an item.

Maybe they have a "contact us" button that I could use to ask the question and then I could wait 2 weeks and still receive no reply. ........ wait, I already did that.

Thanks for the help. That is kind of what i was afraid of. I really don't want to spend $350 for a press then have to spend another $300 for a case feed.

One of the best things about an LNL is that it runs just fine without a case feeder. The 650 is a different story.

I'd just get the LNL, load without a CF while you save some more money and then get one.

El_Nino619 who posts on this forum sometimes is my neighbor. He runs two LNL's. He just ordered a CF and a BF for one of his machines. I can't wait til he gets it all hooked up and I can try it.

It's still much faster without the case feeder than a single stage. You only have to insert the brass once, vs 3-4 times. You also do not have to remove the case as that is automated as well.

I have the case feeder, and I don't think there's a way to reduce parts/costs and still have it be effective. The time spent loading up a plastic tube with cases would likely take longer then putting them in by hand even if you could get the parts. I find it works great once tweaked, and I've learned the tricks for the most part now.

X2 on the bullet feeder die, really speeds things up even when used alone. Holds roughly 10 bullets, feeds reliably, doesn't depend on weight of stack of bullets to seat. Only issue I had was I chose to try it with my Powderfunnel.com PTX instead of the supplied ptx...bullets didn't seat reliably. The main speed boost is in not having to worry about fumbling a bullet around to get it seated into the brass and keeping the press moving smoothly. Just pick up the bullet and drop it in the die one it's pointed the proper direction.

The LNL AP is an excellent machine at an affordable price. I even got my free 500 bullets in less than a month

I knew going in that I didn't want to spend the money on the case feeder, so I came up with the idea for the bullet feeder. It doesn't speed it up a WHOLE lot, but it makes it much easier.

I am still considering making one of those DYI case feeders like I see on YouTube, but it seems like a lot of work.
