.45ACP loading advice - lead SWC.

I'm going to start loading ammo again after a 15 year hiatus and am looking for suggestions about what I'm looking at for a starting load. I have heard from a couple people personally and on the internet as well that the lead bullets made these days are much better than the old stuff and don't dirty your barrel as much so I'm thinking that would be a good way to go to feed my expensive shooting habits, seems that the company Laser-Cast is highly regarded and I was considering going for their 200g SWC sitting on ~4.2 grains of Clays powder which seems to be a pretty common recipe.

I'll be shooting out of a Springfield TRP, Springfield Range Officer, and a Wilson CQB - shooting paper and steel targets at less than 25 yards.

Any specific suggestions as to primer brand, or a change in bullet profile?

I also load 200gr LSWC. I use Wolf LPP from Powder Valley @ $15.50 per 1000. Laser cast seems pricey to me, maybe their worth it. Look here:http://www.mastercastbullets.com/productpricelist.html

I shot some 200gr RNFP Lead from Missouri bullet company and really liked 4.9gr of Titegroup with either Large primer or small primer brass.

Are you using the Hard Cast #68 from that link?

I just picked Laser-Cast because I read several posts about that bullet specifically running very clean.

I've heard that TG makes a ton of smoke with lead because it burns so hot. Have your loads been really smokey?

I like the Bear Creek moly coated lead & Unique for my 1911's.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

I only shoot outdoors because it is free, so I don't notice a ton of smoke with the Titegroup. When I bought my first 1911, the seller loaded up some Lasercast bullets with Bullseye powder and they smoked really bad.

LSWC always gave me issues in my Glock (with aftermarket barrel, don't worry!), it's very picky with the OAL (depending on your profile).

They leave very nice holes, but I've yet to find the proper OAL that will let them load reliably. (I switched to Berry's 230 RN for now)

Remember to dial 1 before 911.

Forget about stopping power. If you can't hit it, you can't stop it.

                There. Are. Four. Lights!

My 1911's love a 200g. LSWC over 5.5g of 231 or 5.7g. of Universal Clays. Both of these make major power factor and then some. Right abaout 900fps in a 5" 1911. I use the Missouri major power factor 200g. LSWC. Wonderful bullets, cheap and super accurate.

Lead bullets hardcast or swaged are always smokey compare to jacketed bullets. I just loaded up 150 rounds of 200SWC Lasercast over 4.3gr of Bullseye with a very light crimp (.001" to .002" with mixed lengths brass). I put 20 rounds into a triangle less than 2.5" at 50 feet (Firing Line in Burbank only goes out to 50') last week with my Colt GC unsupported 2 hand hold.

I'll Ransom rest the load for 50 yards and see how well it shoots with .890" brass length. Lasercast is one of the most accurate & consistant hardcast bullets out there.

I've never used the Mastercast bullets, I was giving you a cheaper option.I still have about 6000 200gr lswc's I got for $46 per 1000 delivered. I believe they are BHN 16 . 4.2gr WST @ 1.233 OAL shoots clean and functions in all my 45's (sig p220, kimber eclipse, dan wesson pm7). How fast you want to push them will dictate the hardness you need.
