8MM Mauser

I recently purchased a Yugo 24/47 (8MM Mauser) although I have a ton of surplus ammo, I may want to reload this round in the near future. Anyone out there have a good load for this?

You may want to consider reloading pretty quick if you don't like cleaning the corrosive surplus ammo residue out of your "new to you" rifle.....Problem here lies that surplus ammo is probably Berdan primed.......Once you have a supply of Boxer primed cases, for starters try 200 grain Sierra Match Kings with 42 grains IMR4064 behind it using a regular large rifle primer, COAL 3.115" to 3.160" (3.160" may jam on your Yugo's lands, but not in my 98k. So without jamming on lands start at 3.115" and work slowly longer till you get good groups). Match Kings are not recomended for hunting...but neither is your surplus stuff.

I have a load, I believe we used IMR 3031. XDRoX and me loaded them and they where like mouse farts compered to surplus. Super fun to shoot, No recoil at all compared to that HOT Mil Surp crap. Plus you don't have to clean right after the range. I will ask XD to post the load for you, if he already doesn't before I talk to him..

I have been using IMR4064 and a Nosler 180 BT in my M48, when I used to shoot it, but after I got into M1 Garands that kind of stopped.

8mm Mauser reloads

Almost every reloader out there has his own recipe for 8mm Mauser. There are dozens of published loads. I bought quite a bit of Turk and Yugo surplus 8mm ammo, and after firing only a few Turk rounds, I pulled the rest down for components. Turk was way too hot for me. Here is what I did, your mileage may vary.
I pulled the bullets from 20 rounds of Turk surplus ammo (or whatever ammo you have on hand) and weighed each charge of powder. Add them all up and divide by 20 for the average charge weight. I reduced the charge weight by 10 to 15% (your choice of reduction) and the loaded powder and bullets into new American cases with modern primers. No old brittle cases to break upon firing and no corrosive primers. I have had good luck using this method. If you do not like to reuse the powder, turn it into fertilizer and use modern powder. Those Turk 150 grain bullets a very accurate in most of my 8mm milsurps and the Yugo 196 grain bullets are nice too.
My favorite modern powder is Varget, so I use that for my standard loads in 303, 8mm, 30-06 and most all other calibers.

I use H4895, good stuff. Very nice burn, accurate, I was looking at the velocity vs grains of powder and I liked the dynamics of the curve. I could download for mousefarts and I gained more velocity for my grains as I raised the load vs some of the other powders. I use sierra 175 grain pro-hunter bullets.

If using in a single rifle I recommend neck sizing only as it will extend case life.
