    Bullets, bullets, bullets, Oh My

Ok, just getting into reloading, I've just ordered my equipment and a couple of books to begin the learning curve. But unlike most things the more I read this is not getting simpler but more complicated. It's time to order bullets and I have no idea. I'm looking of .40 that I can shoot at the range and out in the desert. For my purpose the least expensive is probably fine at least to start off with but I want to make sure it's a type of bullet that most ranges are going to allow, I will mostly be shooting outdoor ranges but occasionally an indoor range as well if that make any difference. If anyone would can explain the difference in types of bullets and why I would choose one over the other, which types to avoid and maybe even make a recommendation. Also which sites have the best prices on bullets.

The cheapest bullets you can shoot indoor will be plated bullets.

Hes right about that, especially in 9mm they totally rock. For some reason they only sell Lead .357 bullets so i never buy from them.

I have been using Montana Gold and been very happy with them. In fact 1K .45 200g JFP, and 1K 9mm 124g CMJ just arrived in the mail today!

MG's are nice bullets, but PD is cheaper.

I shoot lead at Orange County Indoor Range and at Magnum Rancho Cucamonga. Never had a problem, and lead is cheaper than plated.

Around here, lead is a no go! If it was not I would probably have started casting my own bullets.

Depends on the range. I've shot tens of thousands of lead bullets at the range I used to work at. BTW, most .22lr ammo is just lead.

Huh? Why? I know many a competitive shooter who will only shoot lead bullets. Besides, when I cast my own from scrounged lead, they cost me about $2.50 per THOUSAND rounds. If that's what "sucks" means to you then, yea, they SUCK.

You might scan the Ammo & Reloading Marketplace here. You might find an assortment of bullets someone wants to dump. As long as you're just learning, you might as well get some experience.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

Ive played with lead before, its not for me, never got it dialed in right and the barrel fouls up too fast. Enough to affect accuracy by the end of the shooting session (this could be just me). I had a thread about this a while ago where i couldnt figure out what was wrong with my loads, then i stopped using lead and changed powder and everything went fine. Plus who wants to deal with it getting all over their fingers and stuff?
