    Which press would you suggest

I am just getting into reloading and ready to begin buying my equipment. I will be reloading mostly .40 and maybe some 9mm to start. I have been doing research and for now have narrowed it down to the following two choices.

LEE PRO 1000 PROGRESSIVE RELOADING PRESS KIT
LEE PRECISION 90928 DELUXE 4 HOLE TURRET PRESS KIT
HORNADY LOCK N LOAD CLASSIC KIT
If I was to buy the kits and then add anything else I need it looks like the difference between the turret and progressive is less than 50.00 so not much at all and that's the way I was leaning, but it have heard that the progressive can be real trouble to get set up and operating properly.
I know there are better presses and kits out there but this is whats in my budget, I have even been looking for a better kit used but have not come across even a used kit in this price range.
Anyway I'd like to get as many opinions as possible.

What calibers do you plan to reload for? What quantity per week/month do you need?

Yes, setting up a progressive is more work, since you need to get all of the dies set to their optimum position and adjust any accessories (primer feed, case feeder, bullet feeder) to complete their function at that same position. Once it's all set, though, you can rock and roll at a pretty good clip, but you need to use a good quality assurance process to check for any bad rounds (missed or flipped primers, short or long powder loads, etc.) , but that's true for any reloading setup, unless you don't mind kabooms or squibs.

The cost difference between a Pro-1000 and a Load Master also isn't very much. Have you considered it?

For best prices check these two sites. I've used them both and have been very happy with the results.

Titan has a nicer website, in my opinion. They're also sometimes cheaper on shipping costs.

Out of the three that you listed i would go with the turret. I've have grown to really like and respect Lee products. Great value.

Im not really sure as I'm just getting started again after MANY years of not shooting but when I jump into something I usually go overboard. I think as far as speed the turret would produce enough for my purposes.

If you are going to get a Lee kit, I would suggest that you obtain the Lee Classic Cast Turret. It is a little more than the Deluxe, but the primer tube for catching used primers is a really a time saver.

Progressive if you plan to store loads of ammo. Lee Turret if you plan to only load whenever you shoot. The Hornady LNL Classic Kit is overpriced, IMO. Not only is the Turret faster than the LNL Classic, but you can get the Lee Turret, tumbler, calipers, and dies for way less than the Hornady.

I like the Lee Pro 1000. It works well and comes with features that Hornady and Dillon don't offer for less than 4x the price (e.g. case feeder).

The only issues I've ever experienced are primer related. Do a search on "pro 1000 primer" and learn from the experience of others. Once you can manage the primer issues, you'll be good to go.

And get a spare chain for the powder return.

For loading pistol rounds, it is hard to beat the Lee Classic Turret for the price. With tumbled brass already, you can load about 150 rounds per hour. For caliber changes, I would get a separate turret with powder measure all setup already. you can literally change calibers in seconds.

Free advise and get the PRO Auto Disk powder measure. You will also need the riser to go with it.

1 caliber setup will be approx $200 including dies.

Lee Classic Turret, if you're only shooting a few hundred rounds/month or less.

Probably the turret, only because i keep hearing bad things about the Lee pro 1000. Keep in mind ive never used one, but i have used a turret press and im not a big fan of that either. Anytime the turret press gets used, i take out the indexing rod and use it like a single stage. So you could probably save a ton of money just going with a single stage kit

Single stage loading pistol ammo will get old reallly fast. Stick to a Turret if not a progressive.

I recently moved my single stage from the garage ( where my Turret press lives ) into the master bedroom corner. I don't mind how much slower the single stage is now that I can reload while my wife is watching TV or reading a book in the same room. I would definately recommend the Lee classic turret. It is well worth the 100 dollars more than a Lee single stage press kit would cost if you had to load somewhere that you did not want to spend a lot of time at.

What's the diff between a turret and progressive? (not to threadjack).

A turret holds one case at a time as the dies rotate. Some call it semi-progressive.
