    224 bullet availability

Is it just me or is it hard to find quantities of affordable .224 bullets? Cabela's are sold out of the 55 gr w/ no backorder. Prices going up again? Midway has lots of out of stock bullets, too.

We need to hurry up & nuke/pull out of Iraq, so the price & availability of reloading components returns to normal.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

That won't fix this issue, IMO. Surplus ammo that was cheap in the years gone by is all gone. More people are reloading and buying all the components now. Even if the wars were over tomorrow, the completed ammo prices would still be high, as well as components because materials to make the components are harder to come by and cost more.

Best advice is, when you find what you need, buy as much as you can now, cause it's only getting more expensive down the road. That's why I keep buying SMK 77gr by the 500 count box.

      Check out Wideners.com.

      I just bought 6K for $368.

They also have 5K for $345 w/ free shipping.

montanagoldbullets.com has 55gr FMJ-BT's (they just call them FMJ's but if you click on the pic they're BT's) for $208/3,500 shipped.

I don't have access to a range longer than 200 yards but they shoot great at least that far.

You can always swage your own bullets with this: http://www.corbins.com/rfjm.htm

The November 2007 issue of Shooting Times has a good article on making your own .223 bullets out of spent .22lr casings.
