Issues seating\pressing Hornady A-Max

Anybody ever have issues seating\pressing the Hornady A-Max?

I was using my RCBS seating die to press them in and it kept breaking off the plastic tips. I switched to my Lee seating die and it pressed them in without issue. Is there a trick to using the RCBS die to press them in?

I use RCBS dies and have not had a problem with the Amax bullets.

The seating stem shouldnt even be touching the polymer tips. Check in the stem with a flashlight to see if something is stuck in there or if you got a machining flaw..

Good to know. I'll take the die back to the reloading store along with some of the damaged bullets and see what they say. Hopefully if it's really a die issue they'll just swap it out.

If the reloading store you purchased it from would not exchange the seating die, you can call RCBS and the can send you a replacement seating stem for free.

Oh, thanks! That's good to know. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say as I didn't think I'd be able to get out there for a couple of weeks.

I called RCBS Customer Service this morning, and they said that they most likely needs to make me custom seating stem and to mail in three bullet samples along with a check for $21.45.

I guess it's cool that they're willing to fab up custom parts for their customers, but I was hoping they would just mail me a new stem.

May was well just buy a new seating die.

I've used RCBS dies and seated thousands of AMAX bullets and never had a problem. I'd check to see if something isn't stuck in the thing.
