    Finished 50 45acp's - OAL question

I found a load for 185gr JHP's that stated OAL should be 1.275. After loading up 30 or so I wanted to make sure they'd feed etc so I tried to drop 5 into a magazine. They were too long to fit into the mag easily. I measured various factory loads and they ran about 1.22 on average so I reset my bullet seat die and ran them through again. Should I be concerned about pressures? My load is 6.3gr of Bullseye...

If you stay within the recommended powder load, an OAL of 1.220" +/- is fine. But as always with new load recipe, start from min and work up.

Thanks the max load for that recipe was 6.7. I guess I'll test fire myself, I was going to let a friend do it for me hahahaha

Good to have "friends" like that around. You should recommend him to us!!

Anyway, I have fired some 185 gr XTP JHP at max Titegroup load (5.5 gr) with OAL as low as 1.190". They fired fine and I didn't see any pressure problems from the spent casings. But my standard loads with the 185 XTP JHP are all around 1.225".
