Did a search didn't find much. I've seen the #9 buckshot loads in 44mag but looking for something more like the .410 handgun buckshot loads. Googled it also and found a few threads on THR. But nothing recent. Any info? Is it even legal to figure out this idea as a reload and shoot them in CA?

I don't see why not. Why would #6 be legal and #9 not be?
If I were you, I'd get some #9 and have at it.

ok homebrew, you have my attention.
let me guess:
plane jane 00 buck, smacked with a hammer till it just fits the cci cap, loaded to max (the plastic cap may or may not snap on 100%), then crimped on a standard load of shotcap powder (ie extremely extremely extremely reduced load)
Have I got it about right? What's the spread at the distances you've tried?Comment

I was curious as to the capacity of shots Ella for the .44mag and this looks like something I want to try. Where can I get load data for shot shells?Comment
-
load data is on the shot cap box.
However, the internet tells me use tiny amounts of very fast powder. More powder is OK but groups rapidly rapidly expand.
So apparently there's no trailboss data which is what I use, so I just used about 60% of a cowboy load and it was WAY too much powder. Larger than a sillouette target at 15 yards, though with awesome distribution uniformity.
Next time I'll try maybe 40% or 30%. But now I'm thinking I'll try buck, not bird.

Awesome. I'll buy the supplies and the beer. Let's load up a few hundred. Here is the best article I've found about 44mag buckshot/shot shell ammo:
What do you guys think? This guy cracks me up:
"I have a Lyman 180 gr. wadcutter mould for the .44 and I also have a swage that will make any weight disk.* I've made them 1/16" thick and stacked them 8 or 10 high. I can put gas checks on the bottom one too.* I've drilled a hole thru them and inserted a nail from the back and cut it off flush from the front, wicked bullet.* With the swage I can make a hollow pt. to go on top of this.* I also have a .429 round ball mould and they shoot good.* There's so many fun things you can do but there's so many good factory bullets now that it's hard to beat them.* You can have a lot of fun trying though."Last edited by OC-Indian; 09-30-2011, 10:41 AM.Comment
