Request recipe for .40 cal Load

I would like to know if anyone has a load they love using the Mountain Gold 180 gn CMJ, Unique powder and shooting it out of a Glock 22 Gen 2. Love to have the gn of Unique and OAL that works for you. Thanks,

you can start here, there are 3 loads using that powder there about 3/4 the way down, i would back off the powder charge a little and work up.

You need to get one, or more, books on reloading. The ABC's of Reloading is good as is the Speer Reloading Manual. These will give you a wide range of options in bullets and powders to use.

40S&W using Jacketed 180gr seated to an OAL 1.125" (or more) using Unique:

Start load 5.8gr = 977fps, Max load 6.4gr = 1065fps (6.4gr is compressed).

You can also check the Alliant web site, it will contain load data for 40 S&W and 180gr bullets.

I have several books on reloading, Speer, Sierra, Lyman and Hornady but I always find a gem by asking the many experts on this forum. Books are nice and a good starting place but practical experience is always prefered.

Wow, that seems high.

I shoot 180g RNFP Plated and moly coated lead (Xtreme and Bear Creek) and have been very happy with 5.0 grains of Unique with a 1.135" OAL. Perfect feeds and cycling out of my 4.25" M&P 40. I chose 1.135" because that was the length of the first and only box of loaded ammunition I bought for it and it cycled very well.

That round gives me 850 fps at 10'. I ran up higher loads with 5.3, 5.6 and 5.8 and got up to 1030 fps with the 5.8 grains. I found no difference in accuracy or anything else other than a little more muzzle flip so I backed down to 5.0 since all I am doing now is wanting to get lots of trigger time.

6.4 grains puts you right at 35k psi which is the SAAMI limit for 40 and no margin for error. If max velocity is your cup of tea, I would probably start no higher than 5.5 and look for pressure signs as you go up especially about 6.9 grains.

I agree that running as light as your gun will allow will make for a more enjoyable range day (less wear and tear and you won't have to walk as far to pick up the brass )

FWIW, Alliant's online load guide lists one load of Unique for 180gr jacketed (GDHP's) - 6.7gr loaded to a minimum of 1.12" OAL for 1000fps.
