    Terrible 7.62X39 Ammo

Okay, not long ago I bought some 7.62X39 ammo to try out. The results with firing this ammo in two different SKS rifles (Albanian & Yugo 59/66A1) was really the s**ts. It's a good thing I didn't buy much. I bought it through Cabela's. The ammo is "Herter's. Alot of misfires and I noticed with the misfires that the primers on some of the bullets was not flush with the shell caseing. Those primers were a little deep as if the firing pin had pushed them in. After that experiance I switched over to some wolf and Fiocchi. Those two fed perfect and no misfire. There are three brands of ammo I normally use, Wolf for plinking and Fiocchi and PMC for accuracy. Those three are also clean burning and non-corrosive. Have any of you SKS'ers had any experiance with Herter's as I did?

    Isn't Herter's Russian Import?

Yes it is. It is distributed by USSG, Rockledge, Florida. At least that is what it says on the box.

I have heard pretty good things about their brass but their steel cased stuff is crap..

The yugo ammo is good stuff. Only thing I don't like is that its corrosive.

I've fired about 500 Herters (TULA) through my various SKS' and AK type rifles with no issues at all.
Same goes for the Herter .223 I have run through my AR. All said I have been satisfied with the Herters for blasting ammo.

Watch out with that Yugo ammo, my brother took my SKS to the range shoot the Yugo ammo. Ofcourse never cleaned it, when I pulled the bolt out it seemed like it ate the metal. Very nasty corrosive stuff, but shoots great!

Well you never know. Perhaps QC at the plant overlooked a bad batch.
