    Cleanest powder for 9mm/380?

I have been out of reloading for about 10 years. Getting back into it with 9mm and 380 acp. Curious as to which powders would be the cleanest burning? Which have the least muzzle flash?

    Thanks for the input.

W231 is pretty clean burning. Not sure if it's good for .380. I like it for 9mm.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

Unique has worked well for me. Pretty clean, not too bad on muzzle flash, works in either caliber and doesn't require much, especially with plated bullets.

I get less muzzle flash and less smoke with my Unique loads than I do when I fire Fiocchi or USA Ammo factory loads.

I use 5.3 with xtreme plated 115's in the 9. Works good for me. But, there are millions of recipes out there.

Most powders can be clean or dirty depending on if you load them to their preferred weight. For example, lots of people think Unique is a filthy powder, but it actually quite clean if you push it to higher velocities.

I use unique in both 9mm and .380 because can get lower velocities for shooting cast bullets. Only downside is that it's not very dense. With 9mm this isn't a problem but loading .380 at mid/low velocities I get powder spillage on my LNL AP.

Thanks for the replys. Past experianace in 357 with unique was quite dirty. I have some 231 that I was going to try out in the 9mm. When I have to buy powder just curious what I might try different.

I reloaded last night 300 rounds of .380 using IMR 700X with 115grn GDHP and shot them all today in my Makarov. Worked great

I’ve tried tons of different powder and IMO VihtaVuori is by far the cleanest burning I’ve found.

                    For what its worth:
                    I use N340 for 115gr & 124gr
I use N350 for 147gr, you can use the 340 for everything in a 9mm, but it runs a little hot (per the powder chart) for the larger grains bullets.

Unfortunately it’s one the most expensive powders around thou..

I have good luck with Power Pistol I use 5.6gr under a Hornady or Montana Gold 115gr. Mild kick good accuracy--actually they are for my wife.
