Flawed brass???

Got about 1/2 a bucket of once fired Federal .308 rifle brass. After polishing some of the brass I noticed a ring just below the shoulder. It almost looks like a tiny weld mark. I watched a few videos on how rifle brass is made, so I know it is not the shoulder seperating from the case body. Could this be a quality control thing where the case wasn't polished all the way smooth of any excess brass? Anyone else run into this or even notice this?

Yes I know, no pics but my camera bites and I can't get a good focused close up of the flaw. I tried to take some but they all sucked.

Sounds like discoloration from annealing. No big deal.
Just tumble it for 6 hours or so and it will go away.

Discoloration is no big deal, like Bumpo said. When I hear "small weld mark" I picture a sloppy line of slag. As others have stated,

I polished up some more of that brass. Now I got to thinking. The "weld" mark is raised, enough to see it and feel it with my fingernail. Could there possibly be a crack in the rifles chamber and brass is flowing into the crack when fired, thus marking this mark? Some cases have more of a "weld" than others but all are in the same area?

Think of a 7mm mag case with the brass ring at the bottom near the case head. No it's not standing out that much, just enough to notice.

And just when you thought this thread was dead! Ok I tried to take pictures with my crummy camera and I could not get a detailed photo. A buddy takes a few pictures with his cell phone. The phone gets stolen before he can send them to me! Dang it!!

Anyways I started giving that flawed brass out to reloaders to see what their opinions were. A few agreed that it could have been a cracked chamber. But a new light has been shed on the problem. Looks like the chamber reamer got bumped when the chamber was being cut and the reamer cut a groove in the chamber. So now some of the brass has been sent to the range where it was collected to try to find the rifle. I also dropped some light into the casing and saw that it had "streched" or "thinned out" where the brass flowed in to the groove. So now I thought I had a few hundred free cases, now I have to really do a tedious inspection on all the cases to see how many I will be left with. Oh well, at least I learned something new.
