Automated 1050

Has anyone see this yet? I just found it on youtube, I wonder if that primer setup works? There website appears to be under maintenance and Google's cache from the 8th has is down as well.
I don't see some kind of electronic powder check to stop the machine but they didn't have any powder in the dispenser either so I'm guessing its in the prototype stage.

Ya, that company automates a lot of Dillon's machines. One of the forum members at Glocktalk has also successfully automated his 650. Pretty cool stuff.

Ponsness Warren makes drives for Dillon 650'5 and 1050's I think they run about $800.00 However you have to press a foot switch for each stroke. Not too hard to overcome that though.

I have an Automated 1050. It was more than a small project getting it to actually run without problems. Right now I am in the process of setting it up to run 300 Blackout. When/if I ever get it up and running again I will post a video.

I purchased the PW Autodrive and swapped the motor out for a variable speed motor that goes from 4-2880 rounds per hour. When I had it set up for 9mm I could run it up to about 2200 rounds per hour before I started running into problems.

Bullet feeder is from Mr Bulletfeeder and it runs great. I do get an upside down bullet about once in a thousand rounds with 9mm (have not tried 300 Blackout yet but should be setting that up next week), but other than that its great.

My primer feeder is set up like the one in the video, but is much better than the Dillon (which I also own). It is one that is used on Camdex machines, cost a fortune, and runs like a champ. It can do 400 primers in a load.

Overall the 1050 is great, but it needs some loving to really get dialed in. I also have a 650 and to be honest you can pump out enough rounds by hand with the 650 that is more than enough for most. The swage station on the 1050 is a plus however.

You don't press the foot switch for each stroke, but you do have to continually hold the foot switch. I have wired mine so that you do not have to, but to be honest I might wire it back up as I never take my had off the switch when it is running and if I were using a foot switch I would have both hands free.

I got mine from Camdex. It was not as easy as just placing an order. They don't sell them generally. They either come on machines or they replace them for machines they have sold. When I called originally they asked what machine I had and wanted a serial number. When I told them I didn't already have one of their machines and that I just wanted a primer feeder, they weren't sure. I ended up speaking with the owner and he explained to me that more than anything he was concerned with safety. The Camdex machines are pretty complex and have some safety features built in to the priming system to help avoid detonating a primer. The feeder in fact would maybe do more than 400 primers, but that is the max that Camdex recommends.

The vibrator is made by a company named Syntron and the bowl is made by Camdex. Camdex makes the bowls and orders the vibrators in the same number as the Machines they make so what you need is for them to make an extra bowl and order another vibrator. When I called they ended up having an extra bowl for some reason and I just had to wait for the next time they ordered the vibrators. Took several months. I will say this, the people at Camdex were great and a pleasure to deal with.

The feeder cost me $900. And ultimately the cost of automating a 1050 is high in dollars and hours spent. The 1050 is a great machine but I am not convinced that it should be Automated. Ultimately what I may end up doing is making my own press that is bigger and better suited to being automated. That is another project entirely however.
