A special thanks goes out to everyone in this forum. Without your knowledge, you all were able to teach me enough about reloading for me to have a successful first outing today. I even came home with all of fingers which made my wife VERY happy.
I started seriously considering getting into reloading a couple of months ago after I got my S&W M&P 45. Shoot that thing as much as I wanted was making a large dent in my wallet. At that point I started reading and researching on this forum and other forums. I then purchased a few books; The ABC's of Reloading, Lyman Manual, and Lee Reloading Manual. I then started to pick up a few needed items here and there when I found a deal on the forum or ebay.
About two weeks ago, I finally made up my mind on what press I was going to purchase. I was going back and forth between the Lee Classic Turret and a Dillon 550b. I finally decided to go with the Lee mostly due to the fact that I could get setup to produce both 45 and 9mm for about $175 less than just 45 on the Dillon.
Well, I received my press, dies, and a bunch of other stuff last weekend. I used the week to set everything up. Boy is the internet, forums, and YouTube an excellent resource. I then loaded 10 45acp and 10 9mm rounds just to test out. I went down to my local range, Ole Boy Outdoors, today to try them out. I will admit to having some butterflies in my stomach before I fired off the first rounds. I loaded up a few magazines with only 3 rounds each just to see how they fed and if my slide would stay locked back after the last round.
Boy did I have a smile on my face after everything went fine!
Both my 9mm and 45 loads cycled nicely without a single issue.
In the end, I was happy that I saved some cash and went with a Lee Classic Turret setup. It looks like it will be plenty fast for my current needs. Now that I know my current recipe is going to work, I can crank out a couple of hundred more tonight!
My brass from today is already in the tumber!
